a different approach

I have been working on making lifestyle changes. IN the process I have to learn to be patient with myself.  My nw mantra is "progress not perfection".  I really want to lose weight.  Maintaining weight loss is harder than losing.  I realize that is about lifestyle changes.
One of the main issues that has to be addressed is food addiction and/or emotional overeating.  Constantly dieting is the other side of the same coin (according to my therapy).  It is not easy.  It is a journey.
The other part of conquering that demon is I have to make adjustments in other areas of my life.  I have to confront other areas of defeat. The overeating is stuffing down frustrations of life.  It is "unrealized potential".  It is the hopes and dreams that died or were shelved and left me feeling powerless or defeated.  To get victory over the emotional eating I need to take my power back.  It is also about progress. As I make progress the gnawing demon down on the inside is appeased more and more. That inner critic is quieted in other ways.  Eating does not quiet the inner critic.  It only distracts me from hearing its nagging voice for a few minutes.  It is a little "coffee break" from life.  Then it has its own consequences and I get caught up in dealing with that.
Losing weight is not the real battle.  Being overweight is a symptom of the real problem After a long period of time bad habits become ingrained.  We develop addictions also.  That brings us back to life is a journey and I am after lifestyle changes.  I will make this journey by making progress and not holding myself to a standard of perfection.
I will not allow myself to be pressured by anyone else about where I should be as opposed to where I am.  I have to make this journey as I can.  Anyone that can not be supportive I may not be able to accommodate them along the way.  I may just have to do what is best for me and be willing to let them fall by the way side i the process.
Holding a standard of perfection in your mind creates more pressure.  That feeds back into that negative cycle. Negative inner critic, then overeat, then diet, and then overeat.  Time for a change.  Progress is making changes.
