A compromise? Between only three things?

People say that as a high schooler or a college student, you have to compromise between sleep, social life, and schoolwork. Or they say you can only choose two.

What am I juggling! I'm sat here with four AP classes, maintaining an okay social life, and sleeping a decent 6-7 hours a day (that's nirvana compared to the 3 hours I keep hearing from people). I also try to manage a product design course which has more homework and critical thinking than your average AP class. Then I have college applications to think about. Before college apps I have career research, I mean what the heck do I want to do, where do I want to go, where am I gonna stay while I'm there, will I go out of state or stay here? Then I have other miscellaneous things like big art contests, my personal art, and club responsibilities.

I don't do all of these things perfectly, and there are quite a few things I've been putting off. And for good reason. I simply don't have TIME for them! People complain constantly about getting 3 hours of sleep. They were studying, or working on a project, or last minute finishing homework. I can't UNDERSTAND for the life of me what they're complaining about!

I type all of this because I'm trying to comprehend the sheer number of things I'm doing right now. I'm frankly somewhat amazed that it's possible, and not in a "wow guys look at me doing all this stuff i'm so great" way. People complain SO MUCH about not having enough time, about stress, about staying up, and a lot of them have only a one or two APs or a sport. I had such anxiety and dread over high school, I thought that it had to be stress and staying up and worry, but after what I'm doing now, I think taking on their workload would be incredibly refreshing for me... Oh, of course it doesn't come without stress, but I have so many more important things now that stress takes a backseat. For the most part, procrastination too. It's not as bad as people make it out to be. I wish they'd realize that.

People sacrifice so many things, their integrity, their willingness to learn and grow for this idea of stress, because they feel like they have to put it off until the last minute. Or maybe because they have other emotionally draining things going on in their lives and don't know how to get through it healthily. I can't explain why, but it's endlessly frustrating for me to watch people failing over and over again and refusing to try something else. Or, actually, that is something that you'd get frustrated about.

God, I, I don't even know why I typed all this, it's just a weird oddly specific rant. Yeah but I have a lot of shit on my shoulders. I feel like Atlas, a Titan from Greek mythology who held the weight of the sky on his shoulders. I count my hours, divide them up, many things I want to make time for but can't. And I try to manage everything in a healthy and emotionally fulfilling way. It's maddening. It's tiring! It's... I feel like I could sleep for days and not be rested! It's not that I'm exhausted, it's that this dogged feeling of restlessness has settled into my very bones! I'm not doing too shabby if I do say so myself but God, what I'd do for a moment of not having to worry!

So, here is the thing. You cannot skip sleep. You are not well. You have to remember that your friends don't have the physical problems that you have. I really think it's sad that high school is that stressful and rigorous, but I know it is. You may find college easier in the sense that you will have more time to get your work done because you won't be in class for 8 hours a day. Hold tight, girl. It will be over soon. Much love.
