a brand new day............naps for everybody!
i need to slow it all down. truly. usually i am in my jammies for days on end.......last night i was too tired from being out to put my jammies on. slept in my black leggings & black tunic top. felt like a cozy little black kitten sleeping .........sitting up.
I've been fighting a bug for awhile, it seems to get better and than it's back in force. so there's that......the fibropain is way way up. ---overall generalized body aches and pains and more specific random areas of big bad pain. last night it was in the top arm muscle of my left arm......it's still sore but not feeling like i seriously injured it any more. these situations can be very confusing.........cause last night the pain kept me in the upright position .........
last night i had a dream that i was back on the west coast......in Santa Barbara, in my early 20's........and realized I was short. Young.......and confused. I was wearing a hand crocheted lacy small afghan pinned together to form a skirt and a pretty yellow top.......low heels, my hair was up in a french twist. You would think the small blanket would have made me look like a granny from yesteryear, but it looked pretty good.......only in DREAMS lol!!!! When I saw my reflection in the store window I was flustered, taken aback. I wasn't me, except for on the inside.......I was now young, healthy, petite.......guess about 5' 1" short.....and latino.
Someone in the crowd asked me my name.....my brain thought Ruthie, but my mouth said Carmen and I had a hispanic accent. Felt like Selma Hayek or Paz Vega........exotic, pretty........very different from the small town girl next door I used to be with dark blond hair, blue eyes and 5'8" (my spine has compressed -now I am two inches shorter & have Paula Deen hair.)
Anyway, I was with a large group of my dream latino family.......a crazy super sweet uncle with coca cola thick glasses who almost got us killed going the wrong way on one way streets repeatedly..........he should not have been driving but he was trying to show off for a very pretty widow named Rosa. .......The car was an old faded yellow coupe and looked like it had been driven through a time warp from Cuba into southern California just for my dream. The streets had all been blocked off for a big street dance........a neighborhood block party for the whole of Santa Barbara..........as we walked several young men were staring at me......... Everyone was so tall........I haven't been this short since the 5th grade..............everybody looked very very TALLING!
One young man in particular was tracking my every move.........I didn't feel flustered by his attention so much, after all I was still about to turn 60 in my head even though I looked like a young lady. ......He asked me who I was........when I tried to say my name again it came out Carmen. Dreams are funny things..........he put a white flower in my hair......just behind my ear. WHY DID I HAVE TO WAKE UP BEFORE WE GOT TO DANCE???? He was so handsome, dark hair, a cleft in his chin, big soft brown eyes.......wish I knew his name. A very handsome latin man in his late twenties.........one more time, WHY DID I HAVE TO WAKE UP BEFORE WE GOT TO DANCE???
Yesterday I got dressed around 4 and got out of the house. I drove to a smaller thrift store in the next town........and found some knee high red suede boots. Not used to the height of any heels anymore, but since these are wedges I think maybe I can learn how to walk in them before the holidays??? also got a bright red iron napkin holder, two magazine holders, a drawer organizer........it holds 32 pairs of socks so my sock drawer is gonna get ORGANIZED. I love to organize stuff! Found a large white wooden tray ......which will get sanded & repainted. Think it will look great sitting on the ottoman in my living room. Christmas pins for ten cents a piece......with little sayings & holiday graphics. Cute! Oh yeah, a long red tunic & a black & beigey gold tunic ........thinking holiday outfits. a metal tray with little compartments (the kind you tuck into a drawer)& a plate holder. It all cost $18.12. A pretty fun haul with lots of useful items. Everything gets cleaned and sorted.........air drying on a towel on the counter.
forgot about the gold sandals & the holiday sign (wishes us a holly jolly Christmas)..........so cute. it was my day to go treasure hunting. i wonder if it was senior discount day there......cause that isn't very much money for all that stuff. just rechecked my receipt........doesn't seem possible, but there it is in black and white!
i walked around Belk's Dept. Store. it felt like such a treat. The holiday decorations were very pretty, I know I should join in the throng of people who complain about early decorating, but it was SO GOOD TO BE OUT OF THE HOUSE and the store really looked nice............it didn't even occur to me while I was there to be a crabby consumer! .......sometimes we gotta get outta the house.......payback or not.
got a chicken sandwich from chick filet on the way home, it was so good, i was starving. i hadn't eaten since the day before.........but i hadn't been hungry either. so it's ok, as long as we keep the fluids going.
hey did i tell you that my neighbor Alicia came by Sunday evening? I made her feel totally unwelcome, cause I got spooked. I heard the doorbell ring......there I was in bed with crazy Einstein bed hair.......a Beatles Tshirt - old black leggings..........the driveway light didn't come on so I was apprehensive about who was at the door at this hour.........turns out it was 6 PM in the evening. I had been sleeping and had no clue that it wasn't midnight......LOL! I hear this timid voice say it's your neighbor Alicia, i hit the porch light and said give me a sec..........and then hollered out, sorry hon! I let her in.........and apologized for being spooked. Here I am wanting visitors and then making her feel like the elm street slasher. ...........
anyway I explained and she apologized .......we got past it, she was also in her comfy pj's.......so we sorta matched in loungey mode..........
she wanted to return the containers that had held some of my homemade soup ----she made me a gift. A handmade crocheted hat..........because I go to the OWLS meetings every month she made me an OWL hat...........my goodness. It is one of those hats that is young and fun........in soft milk chocolate and light cream. The owl has big eyes..........GIGANTIC eyes actually.........and the sides hang down in long thick braided crochet stitches - it has ears........don't laugh, but do owls have ears like cats or is this artistic license? ......its' really cute, not really the hat worn by most women my age, but what the heck? YOLO (you only live once!)
I am so touched that she made this for me.......all the time it took to make it. So sweet.........so on my way out yesterday I dropped off a thank you note and a container of pecan brownies. I hope they like chocolate!!!
Tomorrow is the OWL's luncheon, gotta make a covered dish........what to make? Time to rattle through the cupboards.......after my nap!
There was a couple in the thrift store, this store is not very big, maybe a sixth the size of a goodwill.......anyway this elderly tiny little asian couple saw a very pretty set of dishes on a table. she held his arm - they looked so content and sweet. they asked about the dishes, and the lady said they were 50% off $24.00. The couple got so excited, they said only "$24 dollars for all these dishes?.........the young lady said no.......$12 for all these dishes. They were so excited, couldn't seem to believe their good fortune. The lady asked again, are you sure? All these beautiful dishes for so little. They were so cute, so charming to watch...........some people have everything and lack gratitude and other people have little and have enormous gratitude..........it is really something to see. The dishes were lovely, a very pretty old set of china.........elegant and undamaged. The hubby was stacking up all those pretty dishes for his bride of many years. I got a lump in my throat.............a big emotional sappy happy lump.
That alone was worth the cost of getting dressed and going out yesterday. there was a grandpa talking to his granddaughter. She was about 3. Adorable, long silky light brown hair. She looked like an angel..........Grandpa had whiskers.....he was an elderly knotted up older gent. Small in stature.........looked like he walked straight out of Appalachia.......(he had on a very worn out blue/white striped conductor's hat)....he was holding two stuffed animals and giving her a choice to "pick one". She didn't want to at first, she kept saying "pick two!" and shaking her little head.
He insisted & she insisted a few times, but then she seemed to finally understand. She had to choose which prize would be all hers............she chose the best one and hugged it tight. Then Grandpa shared the process with his daughter.....the little girls mom. Again I was struck by the love and the lessons and the joy they had shopping at this little thrift store. If you are out and about and feel overwhelmed by the negative side of the holiday spirit, just slow your roll and go to a humble place and watch for awhile........God is right here.
I can hear the train off in the distance............I am hungry! I think a cup of chili is just the thing........hot soup for breakfast is good on a chilly morning. p.s. have you ever heard of squash dressing? i saw a recipe for it the other day and wondered how that might be. submitted to our electric co op by a great grandmother who said her family loves it even more the second day! now i need to get some squash!!!!!!!!!
stay warm and safe..........time to put the clothes in the dryer. and then we'll see......after that nap i promised myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVED your dream. Of course, I am married to a Mexican. So, the idea of a hot latino man sounds good to me. Apparently I have type of guy that I like. Much love. Heather.
I wish there was a \'nap\' policy at my workplace :)
Hey there girlfriend. I happen to like that look myself...black leggings and a tunic top. Only get to wear it for a very short time time here in our so called winter.I don\'t sleep in my out fit though lol! I nearly always end up sleeping naked...but alone. It must be just terrible having all that pain.So bad that you have to sleep upright and with all your clothes on.Mind you if that position gives you those fantastic dreams then maybe I will try it too. What a wild and vivid dream.I wondered if you had been reading something that triggered it off or watched a movie with something in common with your dream.OR..perhaps you were Carmen in your past life.Hang on a minute while I just check my crystal ball.ha ha. Isn\'t it so irritating when you are having a wonderful dream and you wake up before you get to finish it. Especially when you missed out on a dance with a mysterious tall dark handsome man.You really do have such colorful and entertaining dreams quite often.
Now I have to tell you I love boots and those red ones sound major cool.I have a few pairs of boots and I am never going to get to wear them while I\'m living in the tropics that\'s for sure..Only had a pair of knee high ones way back in the seventies to go with my satin hot pants.Satin lime green shorts known as hot pants.Oh dear seems like a past life...so long ago.
I can\'t believe how much stuff you managed to buy for such a small amount of money.I think our thrift shops here are definitely more expensive.
So glad you let your neighbour Alicia in and didn\'t whack her with your broom or anything.Especially considering she made you such a beautiful gift.Sweet hey.
I enjoyed hearing about the people in the store and their excitement in sharing their new found treasures.I am moved by the emotions you felt.I know what you mean. You were given a gift by feeling their joy.Love to you dear Ruthie soul.xo
I awoke from a very hard dream and have been depressed all day. I think after reading your wonderful journal, I will go out shopping and people watching, thanks.
I enjoy reading your journal Serce. I Really liked how you described that God was right here in the thrift store among the treasure hunters. I agree.
You know i am glad you were cautious opening up the door. Now days you have to be and I believe your neighbor understood. The homemade owl with ears hat sounds lovely and so does the pecan fudge/chocolate.! But the visit and thought was the best. May your friendship continue to grow.
I have had dreams where I am me inside but on the outside someone different.
It would have been nice to have gotten to dance before waking up .I agree..
I hope that bug decides to leave you be and that your fibro pain eases. and greenies
