A better day?
Maybe, all the kid meetings are out of the way for now. My son is really excited about his history teacher stepping up to help him out after school. The plan is for them to stay at the school on Thurdays to help my son with any work that he feels he needs help with at that time. My son has always liked this teacher (told me all teachers should be male) and I got really tickled because before I went to the meeting, my son told me not to be mean to this particular teacher. Me? Be mean?? :) My son did tell me that he had a confrontation with the science teacher (the stem of the current problems?) today and she had mentioned peeking in the window while they had a substitute and noticing kids weren't in their assigned seats. My son told me they were working on an exercise with various partners. At any rate, for some reason she said to my son, "I say this because you are the one I noticed". My son responded, "and you are singling me out when 11 people were in different seats?" and afterward laid his head on his arms. She said, "that behavior is why I singled you out". My son said, "I do not see how putting my head down is related to you singling me out for being in a different seat yesterday?" He said she just walked off. He told me that he was trying to be very careful not to talk back but just couldn't be quiet.
I'm very tired still. I have really been wanting to work on my speech for the arabic speaking competition and just haven't had it in me. I also wanted to include some islamic information, which I feel addresses my talk. I sent out a message to the sisters group for help in the appropriate way to do so (hate to offend anyone of any religion in the process). I haven't gotten a reply as of yet. I haven't gotten any replies from the sister group at all since the break with the x and his sobbing act at the mosque. This disappoints me. One day, if I ever have enough peace and quiet, I may write a book on being a lone muslim woman in the redneck backwoods. Too many thoughts to think and too many books to write. :) And I can't even manage one speech. I plan to make my speech related to the sound of silence, in a way, but also just the importance of shared knowledge. Something dear to me, but not so deep to seem a bit out of place at an arabic competition.
The professor wants me to teach the dance still. I have contacted a few friends to see if anyone is interested in helping me since I still do not think my knee is stable enough to manage it alone. I'm trying to reach out for help and not be so overwhelmed. It has been a better day. At least my son is back to talking instead of the dreaded apathy. At least hump day is almost over. And well, I'm still supposed to have this date this weekend. I only hope the kids and I manage to get the house clean enough I'm not embarrassed for the guy to pick me up and that I get enough rest that I don't fall asleep in my dinner plate!!

WoW, this is a beautiful entry. Obviously I can feel your stress through the events you present.
The information about the science? teacher and your son knocks me back. It seems obvious that she is unconsciously doing the power play. That seems to happen with teacher / student to the students that have a bright light and your son has a bright light.
His come back to the teacher was intelligent and a great boundary and I would say the teacher has an issue with control. This is so real in schools and every where else for that matter.
Good news that he will be helped with subject after class. That is a foot in the right direction for sure.
That teacher if she were a good teacher and empowered would not have handled the situation as she did. She is taking your sons remark as a breach of her power instead of using it as a way to create an olive branch to him. He didn\'t actually do anything wrong except that he didn\'t accept being chosen to take the brunt and let her know. Good for him in the loooooong run. But then there is the other side where the student has to actually manage the teacher. that is another story.
I wish you better connection with the sisters group as well as the dancing class. I can understand why you are feeling overwhelmed. Also your idea of speech on silence... that is one awesome Idea. I hope it works out that you can present that speech.
