Dear Kitty,
I've been incredibly down for the last three weeks, and now I'm feeling much better. It peaked last Tuesday and Wednesday, I think - I couldn't bring myself to go to class on either of those days, and then Dan and I almost broke up on Tuesday.
I'll explain: I want to spend a semester abroad in a country that speaks German, and Vienna has a really good course. I've wanted it for a while, but I've only been considering it seriously for a fortnight or so now. I talked to Banto-sensei about it last Monday, and he agreed it would be a good idea. I forgot about it after Dan told me what he'd been up to on Monday, and then suddenly remembered and told him on Tuesday. He reacted emotionally - something he doesn't do very often - and panicked and then texted me later to say that he wasn't sure if we wanted the same things or if we were even suited at all. I spent ten minutes on the phone to him, trying not to cry, and then we didn't speak for most of Wednesday - we sent each other long messages late at night instead, explaining things. I spent Wednesday reading Norwegian Wood and drinking coffee in Afflecks, and then he messaged me - and it was horribly, squelchily awkward to start with. He made me laugh after a while, though, and then it was all fine.
I did go to class on Thursday, but it felt terrible and I stayed in my room for the rest of the day. On Friday, however, I had to be cheerful again, because it was Cecily's hen party! She arrived in the most lovely purple 50s dress (everyone had dressed up!), and we spent the afternoon drinking cocktails, having cake and customising cardigans, as well as painting each others' nails and dancing. The photos are fantastic! We all went out for dinner at a vegetarian restaurant that night, and then I headed home to sort stuff out for Dan's arrival. Mum and Dad gave me a lift to the next day's activities - great to see them - and we played Scrabble for a few hours, before painting crockery for the afternoon. Dan arrived at twenty to five, and he took me to the cinema that night to see Cloud Atlas. It's AMAZING - even better than V For Vendetta, and definitely my new favourite film.
We went to Communion on Sunday, and then he got grumpy while we were shopping, so we went to the People's History Museum. It's a great day out - there are hats to try on and lots of other things to do. We spent twenty minutes choosing songs on the jukebox and dancing together! On Sunday evening, we got incredibly drunk and had a DMC. I decided not to go to class on Monday, so we spent the morning chatting and cuddling, and then went ice skating in Altrincham! He's not brilliant, but I'm teaching him how to go backwards. As for me - well, I'm so much more confident now, and I can do backwards crossovers! They make me go so fast, and I feel so graceful when I'm on the ice - something that Dan pointed out too. We played Pokemon on Monday evening, watched Mitchell and Webb, and got an early night. I had class at nine the next day, so Dan pushed me out of bed to make sure I went. When I got back, we made out and then played Phase 10 until it was time for him to go. As for today? Well, I fell asleep during Chinese and Sunny got annoyed with me.
Dan and I have become so much closer over this weekend, somehow - and I'm glad of it. In two weeks time, we'll be on holiday together! We can hardly believe how long we've been together now - seven months on Sunday. Isn't that a long time, Kitty?
Yours,
Chessie
