Dear Kitty,
I spent Tuesday and Wednesday doing not a lot - mostly playing the piano and doing singing practise (hit a top Eb two days in a row now!). I felt incredibly sad as it got closer to my birthday on Wednesday, but I don't know why. Maybe I was just lonely. Anyway, I woke up at eight on Thursday, and Dan and I met on the bench outside Morton at eleven. He took me to Starbucks and we had a fight over who was going to pay (he won). We were going to go to Waterstones after that, but we got distracted and ended up playing the demos in GAME and talking about random video games in the PC section. We went to Hawkins Bazaar as well, and I bought a new Tangle - I had no idea they sold them! We did eventually make it to Waterstones, though, and spent about half an hour browsing the shelves. We played Scrabble in Franks afterwards - and he won, for the first time! Unfortunately, this means that the scores are now 8-13. Hm.
He let me drag him to Loose's (the antiques emporium) after that, and we had such fun! We somehow ended up being a 1950s couple, playing at typical gender-roles and just generally being ridiculous. It reminded me of Sunday, when we went to Clas Ohlson. I said 'I'm sure this isn't normal for couples like us', and he replied 'well, it is - just a few years down the line, I expect'. We had a moment on Monday, actually, when we were deciding what we were going to do after tea, and he eventually just said 'what do you WANT to do?', so I said 'I want to move to New York', and we decided we were going to get on the next flight from Norwich, and then just talked about what we'd do when we got there. I mean, we both knew it would never happen, but I like how we can just talk and imagine the most random things together.
Anyway, after we went to Loose's, we had cocktails at a vintage event that we just happened to walk past, and they were playing The Andrews Sisters! Then we went to The Bicycle Shop, and then it was just back to his because he had work in the morning. He gave me my birthday present when we got back - a fantasy novel, a book of 'Photographs of the Year 1927', the most stunning notebook ever (it's covered in real leaves) and then he'd done a canvas for me, with all the letters he'd never sent me stuck to it. It's really stunning. We went to bed afterwards; I woke up to him kissing me goodbye at quarter to five, and then again when he got back at ten. I had to leave after that, because the gasman was coming to sort out the boiler at home, so I spent the afternoon making cinnamon rolls to take to Josh's party that night. The bus was half an hour later when I was going back, which really annoyed me, so I got back to Dan's at half seven. We left for Josh's at eight, and spent the evening listening to Christmas music and talking and drinking wine. Freya turned up at about ten, and we talked about how useless our boyfriends are for a little while. We had crackers and mince pies and it was all very festive - and then I fell asleep on Dan at around one. Dan didn't mind - just kept talking to everyone else, and didn't even wake me up (how nice of him). Apparently Freya thought it was adorable, and she hugged me goodbye when Dan and I left at about three. It's always nice to see her and Josh - we just get on really well, and they're such lovely people. Dan decided there wasn't much point in him going to sleep when we got back because it wasn't long until he had work - I didn't even wake up to him leaving! I woke up when he got back and got back into bed, though, and we woke up properly at twelve. We cuddled for a while, and then he made me a cup of tea at about half two, and we just talked and talked. I left his at four, and got back home at about half five.
I've had such a marvellous few days. Dan did invite me out again tonight, but I thought it would be a better idea to come home and check that William was ok (a decision I regret now). Goodness, I'm so lucky.
Yours,
     Chessie
P.S When we were talking in bed, he asked me what I was going to do on Sunday. I said mostly cleaning, and then I suddenly said 'oh, and I need to send your parents a Christmas card'*. That might have been the most grown-up thing I've ever said. Some bits of what Dan and I do make me feel quite young - but it's the things like drinking tea in bed together in the mornings, and him leaving me to go to work, that make me feel so much older!
*they'd sent me birthday card AND a Christmas card! Isn't that lovely of them? Kind of scared me - it makes this relationship feel so much more serious! Not that I mind, of course.
