Dear Kitty,
part two of the last week:
Dan arrived on Wednesday morning at around eleven, and I went to meet him at the bus stop - only to find that he'd got off at the wrong one, at the top of the hill, which I wouldn't have known about if the bus driver hadn't asked me if I was waiting for 'that fellow who got off a moment ago'. We went back home where I was making biscuits to take to Bill's, and Dan helped me ice them. I burned my thumb putting them in the oven (doesn't hurt any more) and then cut my thumb in the same place as last time when we were making lunch. We played two games of Phase 10, and then cuddled on the sofa until he had to go - it felt like summer all over again.
We met on 'our' bench on Thursday morning, in the same way that we always used to when we worked at Morton - me with my notebook out and plugged into some music, and he just arriving and sitting down next to me, waiting for me to notice him. We went to Starbucks afterwards, before we got the train - we seem to be developing little rituals together! - and then it was a two-hour train journey to London. He read one of his new books, and I learned most of next week's Japanese, including all the vocab! When we got to London, we got the tube - I'm not allowed to call it the metro - to just outside St Paul's, and then walked along the South Bank. There's an enormous book stall just outside the BFI, and we found some real gems! The open day started at three, so we went to Wimbledon afterwards. It's a nice college, and the course that we heard about sounds really interesting (it's not what Dan wants to do, but we stayed for it anyway). When that finished, we headed back to the city centre to meet up with his friend Matt. We walked down Oxford Street (I had no idea where we were until he told me, and I thought it reminded me of Rue de Rivoli) and had a look around Chinatown. Matt works in an alcohol shop - I can't think of a word for that at the moment - and he gave us each a shot of rum when we saw him. Dan introduced me and I held out my hand; Matt ignored it and gave me an enormous hug instead. We went out for tea after that, and then went to The Crobar - a bar that seems to specialise in whisky - and took it in turns to buy rounds; two whatever-sort-of-whisky for them, and vodka and diet Coke for me. Matt and I argued about playing the violin, and talked about heaps of other things, like being bi. He's a really nice guy, and he approves of me, so hurrah! I was pretty plastered when we left the bar and went to a Wetherspoons; Dan refused to let me drink anything else and got me a glass of water. We had to dash off after that - I think I gave Matt my gloves, but can't for the life of me remember why - and then missed our train at the station. There was another one a little while later, so we had to wait.
And we had our first argument.
I hadn't eaten all day, and Dan insisted I buy a sandwich. I spent ten minutes trying to choose, and then eventually said I was fine and that I didn't want one. Dan carried on insisting, and I argued with him, and he almost got angry; eventually, I gave him my purse, told him to buy me the one with the fewest calories and went off to sit under the train timetables. Our train arrived afterwards, and we got on it and I almost cried on him.
We were both pretty smashed, and eventually I just fell asleep. He fell asleep on the other side of the table. And then I discovered how fantastic my body can be sometimes - I woke up an hour later completely sober. I ate my sandwich after that, and then woke up Dan to get the number of a taxi company. He was still really drunk, and I didn't want to have to make him walk all the way home. We fell asleep almost as soon as we got back in, and then woke up at about eight the next day. We spent the morning cuddling, and then we had to go to Dan's godparents' house to say goodbye to his mum. I'm glad I met her - she's really nice, and much more friendly than my mum is with new people. I went home to pack after that, and got back to Dan's at around five. We played Phase 10 (again. The score is now 8-7 to him) and then sat around and listened to music until it was time to get ready for the party. Will and Craig borrowed my eyeliner to draw moustaches on themselves, and now we have a photo of all four of us in costume in the living room. We bought alcohol on the way down, and the party was in full swing when we arrived. I spent most of it talking to Josh, and Freya arrived after a while too! I do like Freya - we sat on the floor and talked about Dutch. Dan and I played 'Never Have I Ever' with Josh, Craig and Will at one point, and then we went and sat in the living room. I don't remember what happened then, but I apparently went to sleep for about five minutes.
And woke up sober. Again. I do like how my body works. We (Dan, Craig, Will and I) walked home together, and then Dan and I got into bed and - well, you can use your imagination, Kitty, We got to sleep very late, and woke up at twelve today - and still didn't get up until twenty to four. He's absolutely wonderful. He took me to the station afterwards, and we had a very quick goodbye. I sat one the train and stared out of the window for four hours, and then got tired of waiting and read my book instead. I've been feeling very deflated since we said goodbye, and so has he. I suppose I can simply mourn the ending of the last week and then focus on getting things done until he comes up again (and it's only two weeks, so I can't be too sad).
My boyfriend is fantastic, and I'm so lucky to have him.
Yours,
Chessie
