Dear Kitty,
I decided which university I want to go to on Friday - Tokyo Daigaku, the number one university in Japan. I only really want to go because I wanted to go for Oxbridge, but I couldn't at the time - so, I've decided that if I can't go to a top university in the UK, I'm going to go to the Japanese equivalent. This means that I have to get my JLPT Level Two in the next year and a half. Inoue-sensei thinks that it's unlikely, but that it's certainly worth working towards.
This is my new aim. To become almost-fluent in Japanese by March 2014. And I'm going to manage it. I've never enjoyed studying something so much in my life, and apparently it gets harder after reading week - which I'm looking forward to, because I'm not being challenged enough right now. This may all sound really pretentious, but I want to be given something really hard to do! It just all feels a little basic right now - especially since I keep having to work with Jahaan, and she still can't read hiragana properly. Stef's engaged me as her tutor - I'm not complaining, because we get on super-well, and it gives me a chance to double-check I know the grammar. And because we smoke together and chat when we're done.
Home on Saturday. Dan's meeting me at the station, and then I'm staying at his on his birthday because Mum and William are off to stay with Fenny and Pop.
Yours,
     Chessie
