Dear Kitty,
time is going surprisingly fast at the moment, and I'm not even doing as much studying as I ought to be. I would be working much harder, but I keep getting distracted - more so than I usually would. Today, I only did about five hours studying; I spent quite a long time trying to set up my sewing machine, and then just watching things like 'All Creatures Great And Small' and 'THE ICE 2012'. We've started doing kanji in class now, but the fifteen we have to learn this week are the numbers - the only ones I didn't know were 'man (10000)', 'en (yen)' and 'ji (hour)', so that's all been relatively easy. I started our grammar prep yesterday and worked through it on my own for want of something to do - and then we did it in class this morning, so that was a breeze! I'm considering just carrying on by myself because I can just do it alone, and that way, I can spend lots more time on my essay about the Meiji period and the musical I'm supposed to be working on.
Tomorrow, I'm off to Cecily's for wedding stuff, and she's going to help me with my sewing machine. I've got G&S in the evening, and then an audition for a main character on Thursday. I'm regretting going for it now - I won't get it, and I'm not used to acting in front of other people. But I'm hoping that my singing will at least get me a slightly more prominent part than simply 'chorus'. I'm off home in eighteen days, for reading week. It's Dan's birthday on the 29th, and I've no idea what to get him - apart from a toy Mini (our version of the 'yellow car game' gets very violent indeed). But I do know that he's getting two tickets to anything he wants to see - he told me about this when he last came to mine, so he's taking me to an opera! It's either going to be Dvorak or 'The Marriage of Figaro', which I've always wanted to see.
I was thinking about relationships in the shower this morning. This is completely different to anything I've had before. It's so much less juvenile - sure, we have very childish dates and we run up and down hills and play silly games, but it's a different sort of childish. That's not simply because there's also alcohol involved; this just feels like my first proper 'adult' relationship. It's not focussed 'physically' at all - we've hardly done anything aside from kissing, and I think we'd both rather go out for the day and do things than just stay in and make out. We teach each other things and talk about the strangest topics, yet we're both equally happy to sit in comfortable silence and get on with things we have to do. The age gap doesn't seem to matter, and neither do other peoples' opinions. Everything about this just feels - well, 'right'. I don't care how cliched that sounds - it's how I feel about it. There's no feeling of one of us being 'better' than the other, and he seems to understand me as well as I understand him. He's got me completely worked out - and I'm not complaining at all.
He's also somehow acquired the ability to make me blush via IM. I told him that I had no idea how to flirt at all (long story), and he said 'you don't need to - the way you break eye contact and look all cute and self-conscious is much more endearing than flirting would be'. I told him he was far too nice to me, and he said 'I'm allowed to be - I'm in love with you'.
Love has hit me like a train and knocked me for six.
Yours,
     Chessie
P.S. He's got me completely mad for him. Is it at all obvious? I was reading a different section to him in one of the museums (we move at different speeds because I read so fast), reading about electron microscopes, and he came over and started to really gently massage my shoulders while I read - and suddenly I couldn't concentrate on it properly anymore. He tells me I'm perfect, and he said that he likes making me happy. He let me take him to church, for Heaven's sake!
I am so, so blessed.
