Dear Kitty,
so, what has been happening recently? Well, lectures began last week, of course, and I'm really enjoying them. I'm finally doing what I've wanted to do for the last three years, and I'm so glad to be here. I saw Mum last Friday, because Cecily and Andrew were doing a lunchtime concert at the Bridgewater Hall (fantastic concert, incidentally), and it was Dad's birthday on Sunday. On Saturday, I went to Affleck's Palace - it's like a giant indoor indie fashion market! They have everything, from kawaii to goth to Steampunk, and it's so diverse that you can find just about anything you're looking for. On Sunday, I went to Cecily's for lunch, and it was great to see her properly again. Andrew's parents were there too, and Cecily and I ended up talking to Andrew's mum about crochet and knitting and quilting - and, of course, what we're going to make people for Christmas! Cecily took me to Aldi afterwards, because they were selling enormous sewing sets, and then we got to look round the church she'll be getting married in in April. Andrew and his dad came to Evensong that night - we did Dyson in D, and Vaughan Williams' Antiphon, and some marvellous responses by Sanders.
I went out to Odders with Matt and Craig on Monday night, and Craig and I ended up speaking lots of French. He'd brought a German friend with him, and we all stayed for the pub quiz - we won the prize for the 'weirdest team', because we called ourselves 'die nichtswissenden Schweinehunde'. Apart from that, I've done nothing but study, because studying makes time go faster and drowns out everything else. In between lectures, I've been to cafes a couple of times with some girls from my class - it's now Jahaan, Jarka, Stef and I, and we all hang around as a little group and talk about manga. They're all great people, and we get on really well - especially Stef and I! Somehow, I've become the resident Japanese expert - goodness knows how, but I quite like being a 'reference point'.
Stef thinks I'm really interesting and cool - for some strange reason, everyone thinks I've done lots of interesting things! And, I suppose, I have, in a way. Dan's coming up the day after tomorrow, and I can't wait. I got another letter yesterday, and it made me smile so much. We're both willing to try really hard to make this work - and, for once, I don't feel like I'm the one who's more 'emotionally involved'.
I'm not scared.
Yours,
     Chessie
P.S. I can't go to the rehearsal on Friday...
Me: 'It's alright - I'll busk it.'
Choirmaster: 'You will not 'busk' it - you will tremble in fear!'
P.P.S. I've finally finished the storyline for that musical I'm writing!
P.P.P.S. I didn't get into the Cosmo Singers, but I really don't mind, because I've enough to do as it is! I had a job interview on Monday as well, and I'm so hoping I get the job. The more time I fill with activity, the less time I have to think. I may lose my social life, but I'll become damned successful.
