Dear Kitty,
so much has happened recently. Well, after I last wrote on Tuesday, I had my secondary interview on Thursday - and got the job! On Friday, I went to stay with Hector, and it was wonderful to see him again. I've missed him so, and it'd been over a year since we'd last seen each other. We spent our weekend playing Pokemon and watching 'John Tucker Must Die' - Rory came in at one point and told us that we weren't ever allowed to fall out of contact with each other because we're so similar, and that really made me smile. I left on Sunday afternoon, and work began on Monday.
The company is AMAZING. Everyone's really young and ambitious, and so different as well. They're all friendly, and I get on well with them. Jake ran my training for the first two days - he grew up in Brussels, so is fluent in French, is super tall, looks like David Tennant, and is INSANE in the field! He's brilliant, and I really aspire to be like him. I spent Wednesday with Meg, who's really friendly and nice. I've been full-pitching since Tuesday (Jake said I had one of the best first days he's seen), so I was all set to go solo on Thursday - when Lewis chased me up the hill to the car park, and I dropped my ID! We looked everywhere for it, but it was nowhere to be found, so I'm still pairing - but my new one should come through tomorrow, so I'll be solo from then on. Oh, and the office has a club called 'Atmosphere' - it's cool, but there are rules like 'no leaning', and 'no hands in pockets', otherwise you have to do press-ups.
It sounds great, right? I'm walking for about six hours a day in the rain, and yet I've never had a job I've enjoyed as much as this. I get to the office in the morning and I'm bouncing and grinning and as excited as can be, all set to get out into the field and make sales (I've already done two all by myself!). The only problem?
Mum.
She's so completely down on me working for this company, and it's really making me miserable. To start with, she decided that they only gave me the job because they 'were being nice'. Now that I've got the job, she doesn't think I'm suited to it, and doesn't believe that it's actually a reputable company. She's basically decided that I'm just being strung along by them, that they don't actually have any business, that they're taking advantage of me and that I will never actually be paid by them. I'm fed up with her not believing that I'm good at things or trusting me. Not only that, she won't let me look after myself at all. I may well have spent a year by myself in Paris, but, of course, Norwich is 'terribly dangerous' and 'different' and that I need to be careful because I 'can't trust everyone'. When will she realise that I'm eighteen, not eight, and that I'm capable of managing myself?
I've finally found something I am good at. Not something I have to work at - something I can just pick up and do well immediately. I've never had this before, and I feel so powerful.
Yours,
Chessie
