Dear Kitty,
             I have news!
Cecily is engaged! Andrew proposed this morning (they're in the Lake District), and she rang me tonight to tell me and asked if I wanted to be a bridesmaid. She won't tell me the details - only that he proposed next to a lake and got a wet knee, and also that she guessed he was going to before they left this morning. They set the date a while ago, apparently - but they're musicians, so they don't have to play by the rules. Her ring has five diamonds in it - she says it's just the style she pointed out to me in Galeries Lafayette when she came! The theme for the wedding will be 'spring flowers'; so far, Jo and I are the only bridesmaids, but there might be up to six. Cecily hasn't decided yet. I laughed when she asked me - she's always said that I wasn't going to be allowed to come to her wedding. But then I also burst into tears after she hung up; goodness knows why. If you've read/seen 'Little Women', then I feel a bit like Jo. I feel like I'm losing my sister, even though I'm not - but that feeling is disappearing, and it's being replaced by excitement!
I've been thinking a lot about the past recently, and I've been toying with a few ridiculous ideas. It sounds horrid, but I want to move to a new city, a new country, where I don't know anyone and I'm not likely to see anyone I do know - and just start everything again. No contact with the past, no thinking about all the mistakes I've made and all the stupid things I've done; a clean slate, as it were. Of course, I could never do this - how could I leave all my friends behind? - but it's turned into an 'escape route' in case everything goes horribly wrong. It won't, of course, but the thought of it is comforting me.
I think I'm going a bit insane. Maybe it's Paris. Or Disneyland.
Yours,
       Chessie
