Dear Kitty,
Ile-De-Re is stunning! I didn't have internet all week, but it was alright. Etienne's been quite well-behaved - he's so much easier to look after without his parents around, because neither I, nor his grandparents, give in to him easily, so he's actually done what we've said without whining too much. It was a really tiring week, with lots of walking and badminton and ENDLESS fairy stories (all being exactly the same - they were told like it was part of 'Walking With Beasts' and all involved the same dinosaur and the same alligator and the same events and basically it was really boring after the sixth time), but my French really improved and I did lots of reading. So, no internet, no decent films, no free time, no scales - so I read 'Bonjour Tristesse', some Chekhov and watched 'Tangled' about four times.
Etienne's grandparents are alright. His grandfather is lovely and very funny, and his grandmother is a little moody, but perfectly pleasant. They remind me very much of Fenny and Pop. They also make such a lovely couple! I never noticed when they came over before, but, despite them being around eighty, they're still so in love and flirty and cute. I hope I'm like that with my husband when I'm their age too.
I'm going to go to Disneyland, I've decided. By myself - I've nobody else to go with, and I'd quite like to be able to do it at my own pace. Also I don't think I could bear going with anyone right now - I'd really wanted to take Alex, and the idea of going with anyone else just feels a bit odd.
I didn't think I'd still miss Alex, four months on, but I really do. At least now I can see that we probably wouldn't have made the best couple anyway - we're just too different in many ways, and too similar in others. It still feels awfully lonely, though. I've been considering going out and doing things that I'd never do, just to get rid of this horrible feeling, but I almost certainly won't do them. Instead, I'm not getting out of bed tomorrow. I'm just going to doze and basically be really lazy - I think I deserve it after the last week.
Yours,
Chessie
