Dear Kitty,
the father here is definitely being nicer to me. He smiled at me today - and even spoke to me! He made a joke as well. Honestly - he'll start saying 'hello' next.
Yesterday, the choir decided to go and watch the rugby in a pub called 'The Bombadier'. It's a real English pub quite near Maubert-Mutualite, and going in there on a cold, snowy day, with two good friends, is a real mood-lifter. We didn't stay as they didn't have space for everyone who was going to turn up, so we moved to another cafe-resto round the corner and up the hill and round another corner (five minute walk? What a joke). Will, Jonathan and I ordered drinks and sat around discussing the public school education system for half an hour until Katy turned up and joined in - and then Sophie and Joe came along and we all had lunch. Becky and her husband turned up at half two, and we lazed around on the sofas and talked and drank coffee/beer/Pepsi light (me). The match started at four, so Sophie and I, not being particularly interested, settled down to our own activities, with her reading French on her Kindle and me studying Japanese on my DS. We did watch the end, though - and got quite into it too! We all made our various ways home at half six, having spent nine hours together in a row. It was wonderful, though - and so friendly and relaxing. This Saturday, we're all off to nearly the same place because Katy's holding an Irish-themed brunch after she learnt how to make potato farls. It's also so that Becky doesn't get too bored - her husband's having a weekend in Rome with his friends.
I may have flirted a tiny bit with Will - and he flirted back. Mmm.
Yours,
Chessie
P.S The choir's decided that I am lonely and too thin, so I'm being invited to meals out left, right and centre at the moment because they've adopted me - especially Jane, who's taken to calling me 'ma p'tite' or 'cherie', and Will, who is trying to force-feed me cake.
