Dear Kitty,
I found an English bookshop today, which made me so happy. It's like something out of a story - just crammed with books; they're EVERYWHERE! There's hardly room to move in the shop, but it's so wonderful - and after being scared and lonely at times, it's lovely to go somewhere that's full of English voices and familiar titles. It feels a little like home, so I'm going to spend a lot of time there.
Speaking of home, we've now officially moved. Mum and Dad like the house, but I don't know how long we're going to be there. They're in France at the moment, with Bridget, and looking at another house tomorrow.
Julia and I keep getting distracted. It's the typical 'I'm going to go to bed', and then they stay for another cup of coffee - and then we end up doing something silly like having a DMC or going to the Champs or doing some ironing or having a Youtube trawl. But it's nice to have someone here - and even better that we get on so well. I'll miss her a lot after Monday - but there's still tomorrow and the day after. We're off to the late ice skating session tomorrow night - 21:00 til 00:00 - and then we'll probably watch a film or something.
My first weekend to myself in Paris. What to do? I still haven't seen the Eiffel Tower, so I might go there - but I've no make up at all, and I must do a supermarket run as well. Plus I'd quite like to go and do some shopping because there are things I need i.e decent shoes, tights, clothes that fit etc.
Tom and I had an argument last night.
I haven't spoken to Alex in two days. I'm worried that he's ignoring me - or, worse, that something's happened to him. I miss him an awful lot, but I don't know if we'll make the year. If it's meant to be, it's meant to be - and if it's not, then I suppose I've got the guy who winked at me on the Metro this morning.
Yours,
Francesca
P.S I got a parcel from home yesterday, and it made me so happy to know that Mum and Dad remembered to send my hoodie and my favourite jumper. I've been wearing the latter all day, and it's really made me feel happier. There's one memory that I have of my last night at home (and the last morning) when I was kneeling in front of the mirror, brushing my hair, and Mum just stood behind me, then took the brush from my hand and started brushing my hair herself. I felt about six - but, oh, I felt so confused. I want to be the grown up, sophisticated, cultured Chessie that I need to become for the outside world, and especially for Paris - but inside, I'm still the little Frano who loves climbing trees and reading books about hypnotism and boarding schools. That memory of Mum makes me cry everytime I think of it - I never thought that I'd actually miss my family this much. Usually we're just at each other's throats - but I even miss William. Xavier is just as irritating and argues and loves history, just like William, and every so often, he'll do something so William-esque that a lump will form in my throat and I'll have to blink back tears. This isn't something that's ever happened before - but I'm sure I'll get a grip on myself soon.
