I am sure all of this will change when my mood changes... Today, I received an e/mail from this place I interviewed for ,,,well.. it saved me the trouble of either ignoring them or refusing the job which was shit to begin with,,,( I thought about this after the interview,,, not my cup of joe but I went to the interview pretty much for the exercise of going to the interview ,,, if that makes sense,,, I had no illusions about accepting the job really,,,, this might sound a bit bizarre ,, but based on what people tell me having seen my CV (resume in the UK) people on the outside of things seem pretty impressed given my wide Social Services experience,,, so I am going to be a bit more discriminating ,,, lucky for me I can be just that ,,
It seems that there may be a wealth of folks applying for these jobs with the requisite degrees in hand but have minimal or paltry years of experience ,,, I may not have the master level but I came with a huge amount of boots on the ground experience,,,, take your choice Mr. Smartass employer,,, ,you cannot have both because they basically do not exist for the most part,,

Yes, book learning is not the same as on-the-job experience to be sure. Give me someone with average education and enormous hands on experience any day of the week. When you have people who have already proven themselves able to get the job done why would anyone want to settle for a college degree and entry level job experience? Hire someone with the experience and then have them part-time earn whatever degree you want them to have and you both win big!! Go figure how it works these days.
Going to an interview for the experience of going, even if it\'s just for practice, is fine. I\'ve done it myself. When you\'ve been out of the job market for a long time it\'s often hard to know what people will ask. Yes, experience is a big plus. I find that, even in this area, no matter how much experience you have or degrees or how much you\'re willing to take a huge cut in salary just to have a job, the jobs are going to young people willing to work for $9/hr with no benefits. Employers would rather keep re-training for a position than pay a decent wage and get experience. That is if you can even FIND an opening to apply for.
