Happy Birthday to Meeee,Happy Birthday to Meeee,Happy Birthday Dear Meee...eeee,Happy Birthday to Meeee. Yep, done it again. I've made a lot of progress this year, and expect to make more from now on. I picked up another book (what a suprise, it even startled me. Imagine, me reading ) on Reality Therapy. It's one of the theories I don't know much about. It has something good to offer. It too, like Gestalt, emphasizes the present. It's major component is the behavior of the client as either being responsible or irresponsible in getting their needs met; and the two most important needs are: "to love and be loved, and the need to feel that we are worthwhile to ourselves and to others". "In their unsuccessful effort to fulfill their needs, no matter what behavior they choose, all patients have a common characteristic: they all deny the reality of the world around them." Once again it's about awareness, and in the present moment. The book is "Reality Therapy" by William Glasser. Part of the teaching (and it is about teaching) is that all the explaining and knowing doesn't solve the problem, changing behaviors does. To me though, you still have to identify the behavior to change, and sometimes that's unconscious. This theory doesn't put a lot of stock in the unconscious contents, I do. Being aware of previously unconscious contents allows you to be conscious of your behaviors that need to be changed, even thinking and feeling behaviors. I'll use it to continue growing. Have a great day...to all my friends.
