I have been struggling a lot lately to move on from my past relationship. I was trying to cut all contact from my ex, but due to a couple of set backs we continued to talk. He even asked me to go get some lunch with him one day because he was in town and it was nice to just chat. We talked for over 2 hours at the restaurant and just as friends. It gave me hope that I could possibly still have him in my life...even if not in a romantic way.
Then, he told me that his friend thinks that we will get back together. This brought back a lot of feelings and it hurt when he told me that he never sees that ever happening. It was definitely a bit of a wake up call and I now think it's a good thing that conversation happened.
I do feel like we had a lot in common and we got along so well. When we got together, the spark was electric. I had never felt as comfortable with anyone as I did him. He made me feel like I could be myself, when I didn't feel like I could around anyone. I have come to the realization that if it is meant to be, it will be. It may not be for 5-10 years. It may not be until after we have been in unsuccessful relationships or marriages. If we are meant to be together, we will find each other again. But I am not going to hold out for that. We both have a lot of changes we both need to make. He needs to learn to communicate and commit to one person. I need to learn to let small stuff go and be happy with myself.
Today, I can see that I can be happy without him...and that's the best thing that can happen right now. Here's to the future.

Hang in there! One day at a time is all we can do...
Just like you... I too, have been struggling getting over a past Ex. I loved her so much... that I had to do what I thought what was best, and that was... to make sure that there would not be no more contact made by me from here on now. Probably one of the most hardest decisions I ever had to make, but I did it because I loved her. At least you got a chance to meet up with him for lunch. In my case, I was just hoping / wishing if we ever did meet up... that all I wanted was... at least... one big hug, but knew that it would never happen. I took the break up pretty hard, and I pretty much isolated myself from everyone, and went MIA. It's now been six years since we spoken to one another, and we were together for 9 years. I'm glad you're happy these days. I do wish you all the happiness in the near future with any relationship you tend to seek out. Good luck..
