Sleep
Does anyone know anything about sleeping excessively?? Earlier, I didn't sleep well, even with medications. I would wake up at 4 or 5 am and just be up. I have slept the past 2 days almost non-stop. Even when I am not asleep, my head feels so heavy and my bed so wonderful. I can just change positions and fall asleep again. Not sure what it means, or if it means anything At all...that's what I have you guys for!!!

I have never been able since we lost Jeff to sleep without medication. I was on some real strong sleeping pills and finally got off of them and now I just take over the counter sleep aids. You might need to get a medical physical and explain what is going on. Sending you a great big hug my friend, Nell
Sleeping excessively for me signals depression. If this pattern continues I would be seen as Nell suggested because this is different than what you have been dealing with.
My problem was awakening early for a very long time and not being able to go back to sleep as you described.
Not sure how the other moms will weigh in on this but when in doubt check it out is generally a good thing to do.
Loving care my friend and please don\'t put this on the back burner if it continues.
XO Joanie
I would speak with your PCP about it and see if this is okay. I sleep a lot.
Sometimes, I think it is a means of escape for me. But other times (before my accident, of course), I just realize that I do know that I really love to sleep LOL. When I am really nice and comfy and think I have had enough sleep, I tell myself the heck with it, I want to do it some more LOL. I have heard that often, older people, like myself, need less sleep, but the reverse has proved true for me. I cannot imagine that sleep (unless drug-induced) can ever be a bad thing. IDK, maybe your body is telling you to get the sleep you need and have peace while doing it :-). I never question it, I just sleep until I can\'t any longer LOL
Peace.
I guess I am with Joanie. For me, it is often depression. And boy do we have a reason to be depressed! Sleep is an escape from reality.
Grieving is also exhausting. It may just be that you need to rest. Perhaps your body is telling you that you need a break.
If it continues, please go to see a doctor or health professional.
Love and hugs,
Marlene
In the beginning I had to use some type of sleep aide...for a least a year. There are still many nights that I do. Then there are little periods of time that I seem to just want to sleep, sleep, sleep or just lay around all day. It kind of cycles. I usually figure it\'s my body\'s way of healing, coping or recharging. This grief process and living in our \"new\" lives can be quite draining. I think you might want to check with your doctor if you don\'t see a change soon...it might be depression and that surely seems possible. XO Valerie
I used to sleep very well...then the accident. I haven\'t slept well since the accident.....7+ years. Ironically, I DO sleep well during our retreats each year?? Go figure.
Anyway, it seems the lack of sleeping is more about \"grief\" and the sleeping too much is more about deeper depression. Just MY thoughts, certainly am no expert here.
The advise is good....talk to your doctor.
It\'s called \"avoidance\" and it\'s perfectly fine. Enjoy it. I go to bed at 8PM and I get up at 8AM. If it wasn\'t for the dog, I could probably figure out a way to sleep until 10AM. Don\'t look a gift horse in the mouth, right now this is what your mind and body require.
I used to be a wonderful sleeper...slept at least 8 hours a night with no problem...since Billy moved on I don\'t sleep well. I am with the others it could be a sign of depression or maybe your body is just exhausted - grieving is exhausting work. My advice go check it out with your doctor if it continues. Hugs, Ann
I agree with a lot of the Mom\'s here, especially JFandMDmom. This new existence is so draining and even doing the simplest things is exhausting. Depression, ya, ok. You know yourself best. If this is a cycle thing and if in a few days or week you get back to a more recognizable sleep pattern, then I think it\'s just going to be something your body / mind / spirit needs right now. However, there is a line of depression that should not be crossed and excessive sleep is a very good indicator. If you think that there is something \"wrong\" then there probably is. I am almost 17 months into this nightmare. There are days when I walk past my bed and struggle to not just climb in and call it a day. Then, recently, I am finding that I do have more energy. Am I depressed? YOU BET I AM!
Prescribed meds have always scared the dickens out of me and even through this horror I now call reality, I have refused. I have an addictive personality and I believe that once I opened the prescription can of worms, I probably wouldn\'t be able to close it so, so far, I deal with what comes up, write about it here to be told, more often or not, how normal it is, and stop trying to fight it and just ride the wave.
tight hugs and a moment of peace... Merrilee
Sleeping is a problem for sure. The what if\'s are so in the front of my mind during the night. I try wine after a few nights of no sleep and that helps. I agree that meds for me are a not an option. Too afraid of them. Wishing you some peace and sleep. Kathy
I can,t sleep with out meds. Since my Roz died. I think sleeping is good for you during the time of grief you lost your child you are worn out mentally and physically plus some depression and anxiety. Sleep helps your body rest and your mind. heal. and during the early stages of grief the turmoil each day just wears you out. It did me and sometimes even now if I,am upset I will fall asleep then ache all over.. Bless your angel. and I hope you have a good evening as best as you can. Love Mary Ann
I am still mentally and emotionally exhausted. I sleep a lot, but feel I really need it, to survive. But, I am a lot older than you, so maybe if it continues, speak with your doctor. Sometimes, it is depression with me, or a way to try to avoid thinking about my son. Maybe, when we have had all the sleep our bodies and minds need, we will wake up.....
