50 years a nurse - more babble

Well actually, technically I haven't been a nurse for quite 50 years.  But I did graduate 50 years ago!  I spent the last 3 days at the hot springs resort in Fairmont British Columbia with 9 of my classmates - celebrating!  Only 1 classmate was unable to make it.  4 have passed away.

We had a rather clicky class.  It was 37 years before we had our first reunion! We met 3 years ago and decided that we would meet again for our 50th.  Francie is the sarcastic one - her comment as we were leaving that year was "I wonder how many of us will still be here in 3 years!"  We were all accounted for.

We are hoping to do a cruise in 3 years!  It is amazing how we are all the same but different. The sharp edges are gone.  We lived through an intense 3 year as student nurses and are so supportive of one another now.  We lived together and worked together for 3 years.  We were 17 or 18 years old when we started training.  It boggles my mind - we were dealing with life and death situations before we were allowed to drink or vote!  But we also had fun.

However, as we all know, good times are tinged with pain.  I can't talk to Lisa about it.  I would be telling her about Jan and how she is coping - her husband died of ALS a year ago.  I would tell her how Joy and Francie have mellowed, how much I enjoy Bev and Carol's company, how Barb enjoyed visiting with her cousin, who is married to Francie.  I would tell her that Carol B and May are still best friends and spend most of their time together.  I would tell her that I missed Gail.  Then I would talk about the resort, the hot pool where we spent a lot of time, the lovely meals, the shopping trip, the nurse we met for lunch who graduated 2 years after us, about how Joe and the other husbands got along so well (we sent them off to fend for themselves).  I would tell her how it occurred to us that we were all married to the same husbands we started with!

I am developing a much closer relationship with Cevyn.  We talk about a lot of things.  But she is not Lisa.

She is doing well - the twins are now 3.5 pounds.  She sounds excited but serene.

Tomorrow we are off to Edmonton to take Barbara to visit her daughter and grandson and we will see Andrew and Tiina and celebrate Joe's birthday.

And then Branson.

Lisa:  I miss you always and love you forever.  I know you are watching over Cevyn and your grand babies.  But I am so sad that you won't be there to spoil them.  You would be the best Grandma ever!

Marlene I am so happy that you and your ladies have such an amazing connection that has indeed weathered the test of time and life. I envy that connection. It's been years since I passed through Fairmont but I remember it fondly as a very special place.
I think of you and Joe and Cevyn often. I can not imagine the bitter sweet excitement of welcoming your newest additions to your loving family and being challenged with the missing piece of your heart. Keep talking to Lisa, keep sharing with us.
I trust you will have a great time in Branson. Keep me in your thoughts please.
love you lady, xoxo Merrilee

It is so nice to hear that your fellow nurses are still friends. Life is so time consuming at times we do not take the time to appreciate those people that surround us and help us. I hope Cevyn is doing well. It does bring back memories of Alyssa being pregnant with the girls. To surprise you Alaina and Hailey turned 11 yesterday. Time flies very fast. Soon you will see your great grand kids imagine that. This is the joy of life I hope to live to see also. Babies are so healing, between you and Cevyn they will know their grandmother, I am sure.

Cannot wait to see you in Branson
tight hugs

Marlene, I really admire the way you live your life and do such an amazing job with connecting with those you care about. What a blast from the past to be with these wonderful friends of yours! I have a dear friend, Margy, and we have known one another since we were three! She made the effort to be at my dad's celebration of life service and to have her there felt so comforting.

I know you have much you are looking forward to with the birth of the twins and safe travels to Branson and big, tight (((hugs))) to you all.

I always appreciate knowing what is going on in your world dear Marlene.

Love to Lisa's mum from Douglas and me.

Its hard to explain to anyone who isn't living it... My heart echoes... but she's not Lisa... your daughter and your friend... sometimes I imagine Cara reading over my shoulder as I write... I can feel her behind me... sometimes she rests her head on my shoulder... I feel the warmth of her and her chin on my shoulder... I feel her body shake with laughter at some of the stuff I write... sometimes I feel her touch me comforting me... There is no other Lisa for you nor Cara for me... I'm grateful when I get lost in the daydreaming that she's here... reading... so I'll speak to her... When you were younger... I'd have been upset you reading over my shoulder... I'd have thought you were invading my privacy... Now, I'm just so glad whenever you visit... Damn I miss you... I'm okay but oh hell yeah I miss you yanking my chain and all... Thank you for hanging out with me all these years... I love you for always Cara...

I'm so glad to read your journal and how awesome the reunion was! I think of you and Cevyn a lot. I would be so sad, yet happy for Cevyn, but missing Lisa so much.....Cevyn is so blessed to have you but you are right, our grandkids are not our kids....they are wonderful, but not the same.
Sending hugs to you. Vicki

WOW! That's wonderful that you girls are able to get together and share your life experiences and just have some have fun catching up with each other. Happy to hear how Ceyvn and the twins are doing; and yes, I get it that although you're sharing, she isn't Lisa and it IS different.

Enjoy your travels and have a blast in Branson! I'll miss you!
