Day 1
I know I have a problem drinking too much alcohol. I am almost 50, and I have been drinking more than I used to off and on for the last 8 years. I stopped for 3 months 3 years ago because the drinking was causing problems in my life and making my marriage worse. When I started drinking again, it was ok for quite a while. However, in the last 5 months, it has become too much again. When I do tests about addiction, I am on the boarder, but I know I have a problem, and I don't want to continue like this. My main challenge right now is that I would like to cut down my drinking and only drink on the weekends rather than stopping altogether, but I am concerned that I will go back to drinking daily eventually as this seems to be the cycle I am doing. I do know that if I am successful with the only drinking on the weekends (not more that 6 drinks total for the weekend), and I do go back to drinking daily, that that will be it. I will then quit for good. I found this website yesterday and started reading some entries and I was so inspired and excited that I instantly changed my goal and will start out with not drinking for 11 days. That is, I will not drink the first weekend. Today is day 1. Although I am feeling anxious and scared about not being able to have the willpower to not drink when the urges come, I am feeling even more excited and happy about all the possibilities that are possible by me not drinking. I might share this for my first entry when I join a group.

I\'m glad you are addressing your problem, it\'s important to know whether you are losing or have lost control over your drinking so you know what you are dealing with.
It is scary when we first stop. All of us have been where you\'re at. Alcohol, which started out as my best friend, ended up my worst enemy. Almost lost my husband, over it, job, friends(did, in fact, lose some friends).
Do you think you\'re an alcoholic? We can best help you when you decide whether you are or not. Have you ever looked up \"44 Questions\". It\'s a short survey. That might help you decide whether you are or not. Peace.
Thanks for the feedback. I will look at the \"44 Questions\". Thank you!
