Help

I know you probably think I am in a really bad spot right now with the title; however, what I need HELP with is uploading photos on here.  I have all the photos ready; go to Update photos on My Photos section; browse and identify them, but I guess I have to turn them into jpg files.  How do I do that?  I know - - -I know - - - it's probably very easy, but it's not working for me.
