Today I woke up sore as hell. Little hard to get moving. My arms are still painful from my fall, and sleeping is difficult because I sleep on my side so it puts pressure on my shoulder. otherwise everything is well. worked with Bob all day yesterday. I enjoyed that. I found it very interesting tho. He had this other guy with him who had worked with him several times in the past. Seemed like an alright guy. he is living at the house of freindship. We talked a little and I got to know him, as well as him get to know me. i told him a little of my past drinking and ending up at The House of freindship. Through his conversations I learned that he is diagnosed with schizophrenia. He told me that he has been also keeping away from drinking, but at times he does have one or two beers. As soon as we started cleaning a garage, I noticed that he was already comming out with all kinds of excuses that was keeping him from doing work. His arm was sore, he had no gloves, he needed water, and he was forever asking questions about everything. Where does this go, does Bob want this or that...While he was doing all this I kept working. I could see that he seemed lazy, or by his own thinking that he was defeating himself. Still I kept freindly with him, and tried to help him with his never ending questions. As the day progressed I found myself getting a little annoyed at his questions that seemed to keep him from doing work. Still I told myself that it wasn't my bussiness, I wasn't paying him. I was there to just do work for Bob and thats what I was doing. The guy didn't have any ciggaretts either so I felt I had to share. Thats understandable tho. Being at the House, I know what it's like. As the day wore on we stoped for some food. I wasn't hungry, but he was. We drove into a plaza that had a liquer store. Now I noticed the real him come out. Right away he asked for some money from Bob to buy a couple of beers. We got back to the house and I went to work right away. Now he needed a break, so he sat while I worked. I really found him amusing. I like to observe things, and the way people behave. Mostly I kept quiet and just listened to the things he was saying. I could hear the bullshit talk he told himself. As I worked he felt he needed to justify his drinking. Now that he had his beers, I noticed him making excuses now that he had to leave, and he was finished. I felt very happy that I didn't live in a headspace like that anymore. Some of his comments were so commical too, but I just listened. At one time this dog was barking next door and he says, " Must be a dog." Took me all I could do not to laugh. At one point I asked him what he was doing about his shizophrenia, as I didn't really beleive him about it. I know some people do have legitimate mental problems, but I find so many use them as excuses . He seemed to be one of them. He kept telling me what medication the Dr was giving him, and I kept asking what he was doing about it. To me, it's the same as being an alcoholic. I have the disease, but now what am I doing about it? Yes, the Dr is giving you medication for it, but I was trying to get him to tell me what places he was going to to help with it. Finally he realized what I was getting at, but then came the excuses as to why he wasn't using them. It was just the same as I've heard so many alcoholics tell the reasons of why they quit A.A. or any other program of recovery. It's this, or that, They don't do this, they don't do that. It seems that they want something, or someone to make them better. They don't realize that you have to do the work. Nobody, or nothing is going to do it for you, not even God. God will give you what you need, and so will a lot of programes, but if you don't use the tools your given nothing is going to change. It's like praying to God to change you, and then sitting back and hoping for something to magically happen. It doesn't work that way. Anyway, I just kicked Karl out of my place. He wanted to use the phone to call Rogers. I wasn't going to let him, but I thought alright. I gave him two minutes, but he was here about twenty. He kept talking about stupid things while I was typing. When he got through to Rogers he started yelling and being rude. I had to tell him to shut up a few times. At one point he asked the area code to give the person. He started yelling at them that his name wasn't George. Then I realized that the person must have been confirming the area code and said, G for George. Karl gets crazy when anyone mentions George. I laughed at that, and then kicked him out." Life is like a box of choclates." Well, of to a great day. I pray Lord that I have an open, and accepting mind to your teachings today. Give me the courage, wisdom, and understanding that I need to change to your ways. Forgive me for the faults I have, and help me to become better. I thank you, Lord. Amen.
