I had a lawyer call here awhile ago wanting to know about the place and what we did. I could tell he already had a negative idea of the place. Was talking really stupid about things, trying to be inteligent. He said he worked at the court house and has never heard of Sobriety Center. Just goes to show what he knows about whats in this town. He said he's lived here all his life and never heard of us. Then he ask me where we would send people for treatment. as if we have a favourit place. That kind of person knows absolutly nothing about addictions. In my experience if you don't know about something, do some research before you start making judgements. If your not willing to do the research then keep your mouth shut. I used to have alot of profesional opinions about the Bible, but I never did any research, so my opinions were based on ignorence and not fact. after I spent a year studying the bible, my opinions changed because of what I learned. Thank God they changed. I have a much more understanding of my God now that has helped me in my recovery. I envited this lawyer to come down and see for himself what this place is about. I doubt that he will. That would mean that he couldn't put it down anymore. When I first came around here, I also thought this was just a scam to get money, but now that I'm sober I can see good things that can come about. After all, it's helped me to get sober. If it wasn't for this place, I'm sure I would have been drinking again by now. When I tried to get sober all the other times, everything would be great while I was at the meetings, but later when I got home, I would sit and think, and think, and think. All the bad tuff from the past would haunt me. Eventually I would be overwhelmed with the guilt and shame, and I would drink or get high again. Who the hell wouldn't. Since being here I've gained my self respect back. I can be trusted now. I can help others by being an example and sharing my past. I thank God that this place is here. Every day I have a chance to give back. I don't get any money for it, but it's become a part 0f my life now. For me it really has been a blessing.
