When i became a mother to my first son, I was so young but all that I ever wanted was to keep him safe. I had nightmares of bad things happening to him and I cried at night as he slept wondering how I'd ever keep him safe from this world. I was young and alone and terrified. Then, I had the babies, nearly a month and a half after I got married to my second husband. My oldest son was just 7 when the twins came, his bday only five days before the twins. Lacey was so healthy, pretty and delicate. She was sick with jaundice but was otherwise the perfect idea of a newborn. Levi was in for a fight from the very begining. He scared me because I couldn't save him myself. I grew close to him faster than I might have if he wasn't so fragile and sick. I hurt for him and longed for him unlike I did for my other children. i felt so guilty for that. But, i wasn't going to have him die without me doing and being all that i could for him. He made it through all of it, the pnemonia and the surgery at 3 1/2 months old. He had been poked and prodded and miserable for his whole tiny existence but he made it. He was so healthy afterward. i finally stopped fighting for him. I finally started seeing my other children and their needs. tHen, at 8 1/2 months old, my Levi died without a known cause. It was like a cruel, nasty game and we had lost. I was unprepared. I had finally let my gaurd down from over him. Then, he was just gone. There was nothing that I could do or say or pray that would bring him back. And, after everyone disapeared and they had all moved on, i was left alone to battle my memory of finding him dead and failing him. The world kept turning, my husband went to work, my oldest to school and my little baby girl kept growing. i searched for Levi with my eyes for months. His absence was not natural and I was filled with fear and anxiety because I knew that I'd never find him. My stomach ached and my eyes burned from morning to night. I litterally had and still have this empty space inside of me that nothing could fill. I'm better now, just barely. I've stopped scanning the house and searching for his smell. But, I still secretly wait for his face to show sometimes. I kiss his pictures every night and whisper taht I love him. It's all i can do now. I want to help others but I know that there are no answers that will ever satisfy our emptiness. But, I must have a purpose because I am still here. We all must have a purpose. we all die, young or old. Death will not avoid any of us. Neither does death promise us to wait until we are ready to let go.But,the pain and dissapointment and trauma that we know does not seem fair. I hope that we'll all know more before we die so that we can comfort the others that will follow us. But, I know that when I see my boy again and hold all of my children without death hiding behind the shadows, that I will be content and have peace and know the answers that my heart searches for.

Thank you for sharing your touching story. Greatgranny is right, there wasn\'t anything you could have done anything to save him and his death was in no way your failure. Your children are fortunate to have such a loving and caring mother.
We wish that we were all-powerful and in complete control of our lives, but we find out sooner or later that we are not. Even if you never left your baby\'s side, you could not have stopped his death. I hope you continue to write your loving thoughts here and also consider getting some outside help. You might try Dougycenter.org for a group of people grieving their loss.
You are not alone in your grief and loss. Your family and friends will miss also. Obviouslly, not in the same way you do - but find some strenth in those that love you and that loved and cared for Levi.
Peace be with you!

I can\'t even imagine your sorrow or emptiness of this loss. All of my children are grown, ages 44, 43, 34,32, and the youngest 30. I always fear for them and for myself, because I don\'t know how to move forward if I lose one of them. I pray every day that I be taken first and not one of them. I lost my sister and I felt like someone had ripped me apart and I still haven\'t gotten over that and it is 17 years later. I miss her everyday. I was 10 when she was born and she was mine.
My heart goes out to you and I know that there are no words to ease your pain.
You brought me to tears. You remimded me of how I almoat lost my only son. He was at the sitters while I was at work and she put him in the sink to clen his bottom. She went back outside to hang up clothes, and when she came in my son was sitting in steam from the faucet. He was scared over 60% of his body, given a less than a 50% chance to live. This July he\'ll be 41 years old and every time I see his scars I thank God for them! I also was in a fire at five so am scared as well. Now I truly feel God allowed it all so I would know how to handle my son\'s incident. There\'s a reason for all this - it just isn\'t our time to know. Be kind to yourself............please! God Bless
I am so sorry that you went through that. my daughter kyla was a perfect health baby and right before she passed she ended up with what we think to be acid reflux disease excpet she would get lathargic and her eyes would be wide open but a dead stare was all she had, she wouldn\'t move but was still breathing. januar 7th 2005 i woke up to check on her at 5am she was awake looked ant me and smiled so i gave her the pacifier kissed her head and told her i loved her, she went back to sleep. 7am i am sound asleep and before i know what was what her dad was yelling my name frantically and laid her on my chest yeling \" she\'s not breathing\" my mom woke an started performing cpr as i was in a state of shock. he took over the cpr while my mom called the paramedics, he wasn\'t doing it rightand by that time came to shoved him out of the way telling him he wasn\'t doing it right. but all the cpr attempts failed and so in turn i felt like i had failed my daughter. as all this is happening 10 days after going through a death experince with my grandpa, i\'m trying to be a superhero as i\'m tring to resesitate my grandfather and kyla i am taking my other 2 kids into a different room of the house to watch cartoons, because they\'ve seen more than they should have. i get interrogated for 8 hours at the hospital and when i finally get to leave i can\'t go back to my house for the rest of that day because they were searching my room and the house for any foul play that caused my child\'s death. the two people in my life that i wanted to see more than ever were my kids kaleb who was 5 at the time and sharese who was 2. but to my knowledge the state came in and took them from me. so as 2 years has gone by my paretnal righs were revoked the autopsy on kyla came as inconclusive, but yet they still managed to take the rest of my life away. i got pegnant in oct 05 but found it to be a tubal they gave me chemo shots to abort the baby but it failed and my tube ruptured. i bled internally for 2 hours before having surgery. they had to take my right tube and ovary. the doctor told me i could have children just as easy but me and my fiance have been trying now for 4 months and still no luck. all i can do is pray to god that he quits playing games with my life and heart because i can\'t win at his games and my heart is broken, i hope i am able to still have children. know what you\'re going through and i\'m soooo sorry if youever need or want to talk please fee free. -charity
I do not have adequate words to respond to your story; however, I cannot have read your story and not remark to you, acknowledge your bravery and your sorrow. Do not blame yourself, as Great Granny said.
you are a prescious soul, a phenomenally loving mother, you can still be that for Levi, you can still talk to him too. Bless your heart
BEAUTIFUL LADY YOUR STORY SO TOUCHED MY HEART THAT IT IS VERY DIFFICULT FOR ME TO WRITE THIS WITH TEARS,OR AS I REFER TO THEM (LOVE DROPS),IN MY EYES.
YES I AM A MAN BUT YET I\'M NOT ONE BIT ASAMED TO ADMIT THAT I CAN CRY!!!!!
YOUR CHILDREN AND EVERYONE IN YOUR LIFE IS SO VERY BLESSED IN HAVING YOU THERE,and I WOULD DEARLY LOVE TO INCLUDE YOU IN MY LIST OF FRIENDS.
WOULD YOU PLEASE DO ME THE HONOR OF BECOMING ONE ?????
LYNN
I KNOW HOW U FEEL I WISHED I COULD HAVE HAD JUST ONE DAY W MY BABIES I LOST TWO ONE JUST LAST MONTH I KNOW IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EVEN HARDER BUT I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE HELD HIMOR SEEN WHAT HE WOULD HAVE LOOKED LIKE
You are a strong lady to write your story. We\'re glad you shared it with us. Does telling it make it any easier or harder? When I was 2 my mother had twin boys on Christmas day. One was fine and still is and one died at eight months. My Mom knew he was not going to live and I can\'t imagine how she went on knowing that one day he would be gone. That was 49 years ago. She\'s a very strong lady. In those days you didn\'t get to talk things on, you were expected to just move on. Now, wonderful women like you tell your stories so others can deal with similar situations. God bless you. JannaA
