Today I learned that there is really truly a God.  Not that I didn't believe in God before, but my faith has been uplifted to the highest level.  Let me tell you what happend.  I was dropping my one son off to school (the other was home sick) and after handing him his back pack and giving him that oh so embarrasing kiss on the cheek goodbye, I got back into my car and pulled out of the school parking lot.  Upon approaching the street that I usually make my u-turn on to go back home, traffic was slowing down to a stop right by the turn.  I saw people going around an object in the street on the right side and then saw people getting out of their cars on the left.  As I approached the object in the street I notice that it was a child's bike tire.  I looked to the left and there was a mangled bike with a child in the street in a fetal position.  The child was not moving, and everyone was on their cell phones probably calling 911.  I continued on because I wanted to get my car out of the way for any emergency vehicles that would be coming to get through.  As I turned my head back once more, I saw one of the adults take off his coat and put it over the child.  I knew then that the child was probably killed upon inpact.  What made it even worse is that along with the child's bike in the road, I notice a lot of car parts that had come off of the car that hit the child.  So anyway, I started to just sob on my drive home and what made it worse as I drove was that I didn't remember seeing any damaged vehicle among all the cars that stopped.  Which means, it was a hit and run.  We get a lot of hit and runs down here because we're so close to Mexico.  People (and I don't mean hispanics) know that if they commit a crime here, they can go hide across the boarder for a while.  All the way home I couldn't get the image of that child laying in the street out of my head.  He had his school uniform on, which meant he went to my son's school and he was about the same size as my son.  So when I got home I prayed.  I prayed for the child, I prayed for the mother and father of this poor little hurt boy.  I prayed that if he was killed that he felt no pain.  I just prayed for a long, long time.   Finally, my husband made a couple of calls and then called me at home.  He told me that the child was air lifted to the hospital, was alive but was in critical condition with head injuries.  I was still nervous that he wouldn't make it so I prayed some more.  Can you imagine that if that child had been one minute later or one minute earlier crossing that street this whole thing wouldn't have happened.  All I was asking God for was this "one" minute of time.  Later, on the news  had said that the child was now in stable condition, no broken bones, 24 stitches in the head and was coherent and talking.  What a miracle!!!!!  The police found the car that hit him, but not the person.  I certainly can live with the news that the child was fine.  That's all I really prayed for anyway.  As for the person that hit the little boy, well he's got to live with that, and that is a heavy burden to bear.  So as I see it, I owe this day to God and I thank Him for being there.
