3\'s

I think it is an old wives tale but Jews believe that bad things happen in three's.  A friend of mine had a heart attack last Sunday, Steve got put in a home and I just found out a friend who had two inoperable aneurysm's died.  I really liked this lady as she refused to live as though she had two inoperable aneurysm's.  People do not realize that our society stresses length of life but once the quality is gone who cares for the quantity?  Assisted suicide is outlawed but who wants to go on living once the quality is shattered.  I am not talking about surviving an operation only to choose suicide after you have survived.  I am talking about how much quality you judge your life to have a year or so after the incident.  In my case I was put in a home and told to get used to it.  Sure they they said it differently but that is what they meant.  It was my fear of sitting in a home and waiting to die that motivated me to get moving but they had no idea I had it in me.  Hell, I had no idea I had it in me!!!  Life is precious but so is quality.  Shouldn't we redefine what we mean by life?  Doctors already do it but it is not spoken about.  Shouldn't we have a right to how we live our lives.  The founding Fathers said that we are guarenteed certain rights, if those rights are taken away shouldn't we have right to end our own torment in a honorable fashion?  The Swedes do??? What does everyone else think??? E

such an emotive sugject hun.. like you said you had it in you to fight even though you didnt know it!! funnily enough I have just had this conversation with a district nurse friend of mine..I believe the issue of euthanasia is black and white! I had a friend who died of CF 3 yrs back however it was the final injection of morphine that killed him, it was a gesture from the nurse who said I can give him the morphine injection or not and we all knew giving it would kill him and so did he!! its an unspoken procedure.. but the way I see it , is thankgod!! like I said an emotive subject hunnie x

That is just what I think too. But wouldn\'t it make more sense to redefine life. In the U.S. that nurse could be prosecuted for committing murder but anyone with a brain knew that it was an act of kindness not murder. Maybe we should reexamine what life is? Thank you for your intelligent yet beautiful answer!

Oh What a subject, When Ralph was so sick it was my friend whose husband had a stroke that was my strength, and my childrens and the fact that I was not willing to give up without a fight and knowing what the consequences could be as my father had 2 strokes and everyone suffered for 2 years. If only we had a crystal ball what choses would we make???I believe in euthenasia if it would save me or someone I loved from a living hell. My friends husband was paralized left side, he passed away almost a year ago from lung cancer only diagnosed 2 month prior to him dying, it was terrible watching and she is having a horrible time grieving because he was her whole life. In Canada we just had a tv show on Sweden with several people/couples wanting to legally committ suicide. One couple, the husband was sick, they were married 60 years, she healthy choose also to committ suicide with the blessing of 2 children!!I was so angry that they let this healthy woman die with her husband!!how dare he!!!not to give his wife the courage to LIVE without him, I could not believe it.

At the end of the day, I hope that I have the choice after exhausting all avenues to choose how I want to go, 99% of the time we cross the line and it winds up in the hands of the medical profession. DO I TRUST THEM, NOT ON YOUR LIFE,
Take care, have a wonderful Easter, Joanne & Ralph

I do not trust them either as all that most care about is quantity of life, not interested in quality at all. I have DNR orders at all my local hospitals.

When my mom found out she was dying, she made sure to live each day as if it was her last. I never left her side without saying I loved her, and she had a very fullfilling and rewarding life.

BTW she lived 6 years longer than the doctors estimation. I don\'t think doctors have a clue as to when God is coming to take us home. Often our will to fight keeps us going, longer than expected. I\'m glad you decided to fight and not let the doctors tell you how to live your life.

I would have never met you!

((((hugs))))

I think you are absolutely correct - yes we should be able to decide whether or not our lives are worth living any longer. I think your DNR orders are wise - who wants to live without quality of life? I can\'t imagine. I\'m sure glad you moved through your injuries and came back - what would I do without your words of wisdom? Well - your words anyway....lolol - just kidding. You know I think you are wise:)

Many times my FIL would have liked to have had a gun in his hand while laying in his hospital bed knowing he would never return home to die where he wanted. Cancer took him and as I have watched several loving people in my life, literally ate away the human being I once knew to a withered skeletal person with no desire to be here. Why can\'t we choose a lethal dose of something should we ask for it, when the Drs. know all too well that the outcome will be the same whether sooner or later. Tsk tsk to the Drs. and their quantity money pockets...

I do agree. If the person in question wants to end it, then I think they should be able to do it in a dignified way which doesn\'t cause someone else to have to deal with the aftermath.
I know my grandma won\'t want to live if my grandad dies, he\'s all she has (apart from me and the rest of my family, but it\'s different somehow). We respect it too, but what happens if he does go first? It\'s such a difficult subject. :S

I agree we should have the choice of how we want to go...if I\'m going to suffer, there is no hope for me of survival that gives me the quality of life at I find acceptable for me, then I should have the choice to check out sooner..Why should a dr. have that choice, the longer they keep you alive the longer they make money..
