My husband died on Palm Sunday. He was 41 years old. He was the drummer in praise and worship and his heart stopped just as people would have been leaving church that morning. God has a plan. The pastor was scheduled to meet with me at my house at 12:40. Mike died at 11:45. My best church friend (who was not supposed to come by) showed up at 12:00, before the funeral home arrived. She told me how God led her to my house. The pastors message that day was the tearing of the cloth. For those who don't know; when Jesus died, the cloth that seperated us from God was ripped in half. It was a huge, heavy cloth and tore from top to bottom. She said that during his sermon, she knew that the tear between here and heaven was opening up for Mike.
My pastor arrived at 12:30. He was so supportive. I shared that Mike smiled when his heart stopped. You never know when the end is coming or how. I knew that we were close. But, it could have been days or weeks. We never know. What I do know is that 1.God was there. 2. He smiled when his heart stopped. 3. God gave us a final night together because we asked. Amazing. 4. I knew Mike wasn't gone spiritually, only physically.
The funeral was beautiful and impressed many. My kids and I and my church worshipped God and praised God for Mike and many people were awestruck an deeply moved by it.
The following Sunday was Easter Sunday. It snuck up. I have to tell you, I went to church and listened. The sermon was about ressurection and everlasting life. I had always thought it only applied to Christ, but found I was so wrong. We are promised resurrection, new bodies and everlasting life. We are not promised suffering, seperation from our loved ones or loneliness. I asked Christ into my life 21 years ago out of fear. I continue to learn all the time. Everlasting life. New bodies. Resurrection.
I learned that Mike died when he was supposed to. He will have a new body, without cancer. He will have everlasting life. I must keep my eyes open to recognize him in his new body. I'm glad he died on Palm Sunday. I'm glad he was so involved in church. I'm glad he believed. And I'm glad that I learned that this is not the end.
