Please stop wanting something from me.Want nothing from me. I want to want nothing from you.I want to want only to offer. If you wanted only to offer to me, I would be drawn to you.---------She has already said to me that she is sad inside. She has told me she does not have a good relationship with her parents. She has told me that thinking analytically has eclipsed her more "human" side. She has told me she doesn't feel she has anyone to turn to for appreciation or emotional intimacy. (Or didn't.) She has told me that I have showed her what "human connection" is, that I have helped her see greater meaning in her life, that I have effectively given her what she hopes will be the start to greater closeness in life.At first, I felt honored by this. Now, I feel overwhelmed and scared. I don't want the responsibility of teaching her so much. Of holding her hand as she goes along. Not only do I not have the strength for it, but it's not something I want to do now.--------I've come a long way.I'm scared to admit that. I'm kind of afraid that it will jinx it; or it is more important for me to adhere to modesty in talking about myself. But I have evolved. A lot. Since when? Since, I guess, beginning college. Since coming out of college. And since graduate school.I'm 30. I've spoken with many people, have gained a great deal of knowledge, have seen many sights, have learned about a number of different societies. I have been exposed to different ways of thinking. I have worked on shifting mine to be more beneficial for me and for others.I have spent a lot of time searching. Looking with myself. Looking without.I have spent time learning, teaching, and doing a combination of both with someone.I am happy with who I've grown into.--------When I think of her, I see someone who needs to grow.To grow "healthier"; to get in deeper touch with herself. And as I see it, that will take time. Maybe a lot of time.I'm 30.I feel fundamentally good about myself (even though a lot clouds my vision these days). When it comes to an emotionally intimate relationship with a girl, I'm looking for a partner— not a student.I've passed a good-enough point of the Greek "gnothi seauton"— "know thyself."I'm looking for a girl who has, too.
