Wow. I DO see myself as "special" when it comes to girls. At least more so these days. I genuinely try to make emotional connections with others. When I really talk to girl, it is not to try to GET anything from her, but because I want to listen and try to offer her something real. At the same time... this has... well... maybe made it more difficult for me to find romance. As I've never had sex and wouldn't consider having sex with just any girl (we can talk about waiting for marriage vs. not at another time— it's very complicated now...), I do NOT consider a girl as on object to pursue for sex. And not exactly even for kissing, either. In other words, I make the distinction between: someone who I would feel a connection to and would want to be in a romantic relationship with and someone who would be just a friend or an acquaintance (if even that) Until recently, I didn't see this as being so chivalrous... It was what felt appropriate to me. Yeah, girls (friends) would say something like, "Oh, you're such a nice guy" or "You're one of the good ones" or "You'll meet someone" or whatever. But this actually HURT. Because I had a very great longing for romance. And I never (really) found the romance I sought.Maybe I had "good" intentions, but I was very lonely, sitting on the sidelines while I watched OTHERS date and get into relationships... and get to kiss, and hold, their significant others. ----Now, let me add to this an element that you probably didn't expect: Yes, I've had sexual desire for a long time. Don't think I haven't. But I've never allowed myself to act on it, as I've (obviously) never been married. Now I look back to all those times when I, in effect, rejected sexual desire, and I see that as building up, as a whole, to sexual repression. And as I look back on all those years..............Boy.1) What I missed...; and 2) The difficulties I have in looking for a romantic partner now. So, let's consider a different scenario: What if I HAD given in to sexual desire? And pursued girls for physicality? And hadn't been as sensitive to girls as PEOPLE? If I had had more physical gratification... I think two things might have resulted: I might not have the hang-ups I have today regarding girls and my desirability, and sex; and I'd be just another guy of the kind that some women on this site have disparaged. A source of frustration for a number of women. But also.... feeling more free? To the girls who feel objectified by guys beacuse of their looks; to girls who wish guys would look at them more; to guys who have had a lot of physical experience with girls but who now feel bitter, if not lonely, too; and to guys, like me, who try to look at, and interact with, women as people, and who long for romance... and want sex, when the time is right...To all: The grass can seem greener on the other side.
