I don't think I am a dumb person. A dumb woman to be more exact. Why do I play dumb then? I was driving down the dirt road coming to the house and VDOT was cutting down a tree so there were about 7 men working the road. I was alone and digging the music I was listening to (Bobby Brown's My Prerogative) and I was stopped by one of the workers to tell me that the other guy had radioed down to tell me that I had a break light out. I said something like "Oh, thats what the light on the dash means" like I didn't have a clue....I was riding with dash lights on and don't know what they mean but when I got in the van the day before and the light came on for the first time I immediately looked it up in the owners manual and saw that that symbol meant that I had a light out. I knew it....Why the dumb helpless female act? I sould not perpeturate the "myth" that women don't know things. I get it enough in garages and auto parts stores. The men behind the counters are dismissive of me and don't really listen to what I have to say. I needed an inspection on my car and went to someone that I have never been to before. I knew there was nothing wrong with my car and it should have passed. The garage said my rear main brake seal was leaking (it wasn't) and said it would cost over $400.00 to replace it and the one on the other side. They gave me a rejection however I took it to a place that I had before and they passed it. I had scraped off the rejection but they didn't say anything about it....come to think of it though my husband was with me that time. Hummmm. When I am out in public I am invisible-people look right through me. That is okay I don't mind that. I like flying under the radar. Just don't assume that I am moronic and don't have a brain and can't think for myself. I think there is an old country song named A Country Girl Can Survive. Well, this hillbilly girl can survive........But back to the orginial question-why do I act dumb?
