Had a good talk with one of my closest friends today. I think majority of the problem with my relationship is my girlfriend's inability to control the way she drinks. Its not just sapping me up emotional but I have to deal with her drunken state of mind whenever she is staying over at my place. I don't know how to tell her to stop because she'll just fly into a rage thinking I am trying to control her.
I don't know if she's even remorseful about what happens the day after when I tell her the troubles she puts me and my family into. Even on holidays, we just can't enjoy it properly without her hitting the bottle. I am at the disadvantaged here because whenever I tell her she's drinking way too much she'll scream at me or even if I don't I have to deal with her splayed on the floor of some bar with usually no help to get her back home or to somewhere safe. On top of that she just refuses to admit that she gets a little too comfortable with the strange men that tries to pick her up when's drunk.
Its like she knows she's doing something wrong but she just doesn't give a damn about how its affecting the people around her. I know she has deep seated issues from her past that she tries to drown out. Further more, her friends aren't helping, they drink with her and they probably think I'm some kind of control freak. I drink too but I don't like getting drunk and I definitely hate the hangover.
Its even more difficult for me because both me and her are still living with our parents. Renting out is not an option as property prices in Singapore are cutthroat even if we both hold comfortable mid range executive jobs. Her drinking eats a lot into our expenditures. My parents thinks she is a bad influence on me and every time they find out that there are bottles around my room they start asking questions, questions which I don't have answers for. If I told my parents the truth about my girlfriend, its possible that they are going to ban her from coming over. Staying over at her place is not an option as well as her parents are very conservative and she's hasn't come out to them.
I love her and I really want to help her for the betterment of our relationship but I feel helpless and stuck.
