a few days ago matt told me i had a letter comming that he wrote last friday and to jsut throw it away when i got it and to not even read it. well i read it anyways... he said not to read it b/c it was depressing. when i read it i was like this letter isnt that depressing! lol but what it said was that his squad that he leads doesnt like the fact that he is the youngest guy there but yet he gets to be squad leader. matt turned 18 five days before he left for basic training so most guys that are there are somewhat older than him and they dont like the fact that a 18yr old is telling them what to do. and he also said that he wishes something would happen to him so that he could come home and be with me again. poor guy he is very home sick... either that or "Brittany sick" lol. i think he is better now because when he called me sunday he said, "Britt, dont worry about the letter from friday i was just depressed that day." i hate him being sad and that i cant be there to cheer him up of boost him up. i think thats one of the hardest parts of all this. not being able to be there for each other when you need each other the most.

My brother and Brian were both like that. My brother Ed was 17 when he went through basic, so he got crap...it happens. Brian, who\'s 21, is now an E-4 (specialist). He has guys that are 34+ years old and a only only a private 1st class and he has to tell them what to do. You are always going to get that in the military...read my journal though, it should help you!

Brittney, I know exactly what he is going through. There is a reason for it. He should feel honored that his DI made him squad leader. Men are put in those positions because the DI feels they may have leadership abilities and want to test them out. As for the older guys, They are most likely jellous because noone saw that potential in them. Another reason for him being in that position may be to help teach the others to take orders rather the leader is older or not, he just out ranks them and a good soldier disregards age and just follows orders.
