Ok, this is pure silliness, tried to be a good girl and use my cpap yesterday and now my sinus's are acting up. grrrrrrr. took my first dose of topamax yesterday, slept a little last night. keep having headaches now. at least for a while , my migraines were mostly auras and nausea and numbness. now Im gettin the whole gammit. havent left the bed since yesterday morning when I got home form work. and Im supposed to wait.....18 more days before I see the doc? at least today, a friend told me topamax dosent take 3 months to start working, thank God. I sat on the floor and did some straightening last night, today I will try to do some more. need laundry done if Im goin to work tommorrow. belly is cramping, one of topamax side effects. Im trying not to take to much meds so I dont rebound, but its tough when you feel crappy. my boss and his wife got me this aroma therapy kit with a eye mask and a neck wrap and a back wrap and a few other things and it works wonders! just hard to sleep when your head hurts touchin the pillow. I dunno if compazine is working or not, seemed to work in hospital (IV) but at home, pills, makes me loopy, and dosent kill all the symptoms. gonna try some more rest now. give the topamax a few days to kick in... it does work wonders for the migranes... and try some relaxation tequines ...cripes in need to learn how to spell...grin.. lavender scent works well.. incences...oil..pou porie..etc... helps to relax you...

I\'ve been on topamax for years. Not for migraines though. Do you know they call it \"dopamax\"? It also is the reason I can\'t keep weight on. I went from 120 to 90 pounds. I don\'t know if you like this news or not...LOL. Stick with it, it takes a couple weeks I\'m sure. I\'m on a super high dose. Kisses Lorraine. -Jen

Topamax doesn\'t necessarily take 3 months to start working. However, in order to tell for sure if it works for you or not, you need to give it up to three months (the general preventative rule).
Side effects with medications come right away. The actual benefits usually don\'t come until at least couple weeks in. (At least not in these types of meds)
Something else you have to take into consideration... 25mg might do nothing for your headaches. 100mg might be the dose that fixes them. So you need to give your doc time to titrate up to that dose.
200mg is the max dose they\'ll give to migraine patients. So if they titrated you up VERY quickly (25mg a week), you\'d be at 200mg at the 2 month mark and have 4 weeks to find out if Topamax was any good for you or not.
And keep in mind, just because Topamax doesn\'t work for you on its own - it doesn\'t mean it won\'t work for you in combination with another drug like Verapamil.

Do hope this works for you Lorraine - I am useless - no longer familiar with the drugs-esp. since the Patent names are quite different!. The aroma therapy & relaxation help I hope: just so relieved that the MS is ruled out! Fond regards JaneD.
