Announcing our Charity Grants! It's been an exhausting and inspirational last few days here at DailyStrength headquarters. We read through all of more than 400 submissions you sent us - touching stories of loss, incredible stories of perseverance and strength, and so much more. Honestly, it's hard to choose - so many different stories resonated with each of us. I won't like - we had some long debates about what non-profits to support. Ultimately, we decided that instead of giving $1000 to 2 non-profits, we'd send $500 to the 4 charities that reflected the diversity of our many communities. Here are the 4 organizations that we are going to donate to.Sue71435Sue is a 56 year old woman who suffers from early onset Alzheimer's, which is affecting both her and her family. A nurse for 30 years, she's seen the tragic effects of Alzheimer's and dementia, and she has spent much of her life helping people with this difficult condition. At Sue's request, we are donating $500 to the Alzheimer's Association.Read Sue's Charity Journal and learn more about The Alzheimer's AssociationLindacmaLinda's husband Lou was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) on December 26, 2006. Just 3 weeks and a brief round of chemo later, he passed away. Linda has committed herself to doing her part to beat this disease. At her request, we are donating $500 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.Read Lindacma's Charity Journal and learn more about The Leukemia and Lymphoma SocietyAb223Ab's father, a Navy veteran, developed Multiple Sclerosis in 1967 before Ab was born. He lived for 21 more years, but was a "prisoner" in his own body, confined to a wheelchair. Despite some progress, MS remains a terrible disease that affects individuals and families. At Ab's request, we are donating $500 to the Paralyzed Veterans Association.Read Ab223's Charity Journal and learn more about the Paralyzed Veterans of AmericaSaigeSaige is a 44-year-old grandma to three grandchildren. Just a year ago, her daughter Kim suffered a miscarriage after 5 months of pregnancy. Having already lost a husband to cancer, Saige helped her daughter through this trying time, and fortunately, Kim is now pregnant again. As an active member of DailyStrength. Saige has seen the pain caused by birth defects. At her request (and the request of many other mothers and grandmothers on DS), we are donating $500 to the March of Dimes.Read Saige's Charity Journal and learn more about the March Of DimesThe checks will be sent out within a week. Thanks to all of you for your time and effort. This event was such a success that we plan to do it again soon. Already, we've heard of many DS members who have taken their own initiative and donated to these organizations on their own. Together, we're making a difference. Doug
