20 days!!

It has been 20 days since I journaled. I actually thought it had been much longer! I get busy or distracted, time slips by so fast, I think about it, feel guilty that I haven't touched base, put it out of my mind because guilt sucks...then more time passes...so today I just opened the page and it was as easy as that! A lot of you are on facebook, so at least you know I am still breathing, but some of you are not and I don't want you to worry...but then again, like Teri said, my ego gets away from me sometimes, lol. Everyone just might not be holding their breath to hear from me! Imagine that!

In 4 days it will be 4 years. I am going to be all over the place emotionally, like what else is new, right???!!! A couple of weeks ago I was feeling okay and thinking maybe I could just skip it this year. Not acknowledge it as any other day, take back some of the power that mean date has over me. It was wishful thinking...It has been attacking me from all directions, demanding my attention and my emotions, hurting me...I don't like reliving that day every year. I also don't like this journey I am on...no one does. Yet here I am.

I have been doing a bit of reading on the practice of Buddhism. There are many sects, I am of the school of thinking that it is a practice, not a religion, which is, in my humble opinion, what Buddha intended. He said he was merely the finger pointing the way, however everyone should question everything, no matter where they had read it or who had said it, even if he had said it, and if it didn't work for them, then move on. No dogma, no demands, no rules...just guidelines to how he himself had reached a point of enlightenment. I have always been attracted to the ancient eastern practices and yes, even religions, and I find Buddhism very peaceful. Getting down to the very basics, there are The Four Noble Truths...then the more specific Eightfold Path to Righteousness. The first of the Noble Truths is roughly translated into "Life is Suffering". That turns a lot of people off and they dig no deeper. However, we now know the deeper intention of the statement. It's not Life, in and of itself, that is suffering, but the yearning, the search for happiness or stability or safety, whatever. Our soul knows it's true potential, which is greater than our human brains consider, and we become rats on a wheel chasing a piece of cheese that will never satisfy us. We can do amazing things, get an education, a great job, a home, raise a family, basically the "American Dream", yet there is a quiet yet unyielding whispering...we interpret it as more, more, more...yet even amassing great wealth, fame, power can't give us what we already posess but are not aware of. That is the suffering, the "quiet desperation"... nothing external can truly make us happy for very long. We have to get quiet and listen to our soul, it knows it's potential. To compare it to the teachings of Jesus, He told people to abandon everything, all their property, leave their families, take to the road with Him...no doubt those that did were fulfilling the highest desires or their souls, but could you do it??? That is your suffering, ignoring your spirit, denying your suffering, accepting your ego's definition of a good happy life...we think more money, a better job, a bigger house will fulfill that hole but the happiness these things bring is fleeting, and sooner or later our spirit will be tapping us on the shoulder again, and not understanding where this feeling is coming from, we continue to work harder, achieve more...maybe our purpose is to move to India and work in an orphanage. Can anyone deny that Mother Teresa was happy? But we would not look longingly at her precious life...she embraced the suffering, and expected nothing...she did not yearn for happiness, she just was, because she was fulfilling her highest purpose. Have you seen photos of her smile??? It won't be denied.

So that is where I am now. That has my interest now. It could be something else next week. This is a marathon, not a sprint, and a journey, not a destination. I just want to learn and grow and evolve. I don't know why my life turned out this way, but I have faith that despite how hard it has been and continues to be, there is a reason for it. It is part of my journey and as long as I continue to reach out to other moms I am serving, I have a purpose...and I had the excruciating education to prepare me for it. Mind you, if a non-grieving mom, one of the unbroken, tries to tell me there is a reason for everything, that person will most likely "tote a cussin'" as we say in the south. If she hasn't walked the walk, she hasn't, in my opinion, earned the right to talk the talk, not to me anyway...maybe I will become more patient in time, but probably not soon.

Hope all is well...I had the flu, the bad one, but it's over and I am regaining my strength. If you have not gotten it, I highly recommend getting the vaccine. I never have before, but will from now on, it's not fun.

Hi Gina, thank goodness you are feeling better. The flu this year is such a severe strain. Scary!

I know some of the other moms here have said that they have learned not to place such power in a date. For me, I tried that but it doesn't work for me (or my grandchildren). Each year as Ed's angel date approaches I have dreams, sadness and even physical symptoms. My granddaughter gets migraines & increasingly anxious and sad and my grandson gets very sad. So for us, we just feel what we feel, talk about it and try to relish the memories.

I studied the Buddha in college and loved many of the principles of Buddism. Ghandi, Mother Teresa are people I admire too. I just want to live and love and keep learning too. I describe myself as a Christian who happens to attend a Methodist Church because I'm not big on labels. If I can learn from someone else's beliefs or disciplines I'm thrilled.

I will be thinking of you on Friday...I will have a candle glowing in memory and honor of dearest Cassi.
Love and hugs, Linda

I do think about you as I do so many of our sisters of the heart and am happy to read a journal from you. So sorry about that flu and I'll never forget being leveled several years ago with the worse flu ever! It took me over two weeks to feel human again.

I take a little of all the many traditions and enjoy learning too about what offers others a deep abiding peace in this life. It's wonderful for the gray matter to continue to study, learn and to evolve.

I have often said that I could be on a deserted island out in the middle of no where and feel these tender days coming. It's encoded in the cells of my mother's heart and I'm never sure how I will feel and will be thinking of you as you move through Cassi's. My thoughts are with as that day approaches and however you navigate it that is okay.

Gentle care dear Gina lots of warm aloha to find you today and in the days ahead.

Gina, it is 20 days today for me too. Marissa would be 39 years old. Cassi is proud of you as you travel this journey. I was thinking of the joy of having my girls just yesterday, knowing her birthday is at hand. I truly had a longing to hold her. It never leaves, this ache!
Yet we have to live here without our girls. It stinks for sure.
I admire your insight into Buddism, I have a friend who is a yoga instructor and the calm she has is so admirable. I truly feel the peace being around her.
Glad you are over the flu, my co-worker was just hospitalized last week. I took the shot as I can't bring it home here. Be well and Peace!!! Kathy

Dear Gina, I find that living life now is painful but angel-versaries are especially so. Still, I managed to get through Charlie's transition date of Jan, 13th, albeit with tears. I wish you peace of mind & heart this week but I think you will find out/figure out what gets you through Cassi's Angel day best. The calmness of Buddhism sounds good to me.

So glad you are over that awful flu! It probably will take a while to get back to normal. We took the shots back in Sept. & have escaped the flu so far.

Will be thinking of you & your beloved Cassi this week. Love & Hugs to Cassi's forever Mom from Charlie's forever Mom, Donna

Glad you felt like journaling again; and I totally understand the distractions of daily life. I had to LOL about me (I'm guessing it was me) telling you the world wasn't holding it's breath waiting on you! I certainly have a daily challenge of keeping MY ego in check!!

4 years...... I know it's different for all of us, but for whatever reason (guess I was "ready") my year 4 seemed to be a real turning point in my grief journey. And no matter where we're at in this walk, "it" can come crashing in on us at any given moment, unannounced and unwelcomed. I do know my mountains and valleys have leveled out a lot and life is easier to enjoy now. That's a miracle really. I pray you, and all of us, find simple, honest, joys and fully allow ourselves to enjoy those moments. But these markers, these dates that stare us in the face, well, they can be crushing

I like to learn about different religions/beliefs. I truly believe there is something to be learned from all of them. I'm open to anyone, any teachings that are founded on LOVE and spiritual growth and helping others....just basically, being a good person and not a shithead all the time. I know very little about Buddism, but what I've heard or read has been very positive. I just haven't devoted time to learning more. Perhaps I will.... I keep things pretty much just between me and Spirit....and my Tammy is huge influence too; although we don't agree on everything anymore. Child loss can do that to a person...at least it happened to me. I said HELL NO to anything "God" for a while. But, came out of my anger and decided to "give God another chance", LOL. We're working things out.

Took me a long time to quit being pissed off at people "talking the talk" as you say without "walking the walk". What I've decided to believe is in THEIR minds, they are offering something helpful. I TRY to either just listen and let it go in one ear and out the other, or educate them if possible. Mostly, now, I'm able to offer comfort and compassion to them whereas before, they'd surely have gotten a good tongue lashing from me!

Glad you're over your flu! OMG...it's been horrific this year. I've heard of two children who've been hospitalized...one died, one is still fighting, and another man, 40, died last week. This is just in my little neck of the woods. Oh, and Roger's hair stylist has it now. Scary stuff for sure!!

This is definitely a marathon and we're all doing the best we can each and every day....even, as Kala told me, if we stay in bed and snot all over ourselves. When we can get up and wash our faces, we do. And BTW, YOUR face has been looking extra lovely lately!!! Damn girl, you need to give me some makeup tips!! Maybe in Nashville???

Big hugs and lots of love~
Teri
