1st Scrutiny
If the sequence of events from today have taught me anything, it would be that no matter how many times you make a schedule and go over each detail with your significant other, it will never go according to plan.
Today was just unbelievably frustrating. My husband had agreed to help our babysitter (who is like family to us) lay some new flooring in their kitchen. They recently bought a house for their daughter's little family (she has a new baby), which has a few flaws. The floor being a major flaw. Apparently, whoever remodeled the house didn't prep the floor before laying the tile, so it created uneven places with several areas where the grout had chipped or cracked.
Anyway, we had planned on going over there to take care of that late morning, then have lunch over there as an extended family. They had recently cut the top of the tree off that sits in the front yard. Once we arrived and were all in the front, the next door neighbor came out screaming profanities and making very loud racist comments about our babysitters family. The excitement from put hubby behind on schedule on doing the floor. And of course, since he had the cement mixed up, he decided to repair their walk in front of the house, which left me to do the cooking.
I had an event I had to attend at Church. Today was the 1st Scrutiny for all of the RCIA Elect, in which I was to be at the Church by 3:30 PM for rehearsal. My husband was well aware that today's schedule would be extremely tight. By the time we finished eating, it was already 3:10 PM. We still had to come back home, bathe the children and change clothes. I knew we wouldn't able to make it by 4:00 PM, let alone 3:30 PM, so I just decided to not go. As it turns, that probably wasn't the best decision.
I was beyond angry, and by the time we got home, I wasn't even speaking to my husband. He has no problem rushing when HE wants to be somewhere, but when it's something for the children or me, he takes his sweet time. He rushed out the door with the children, telling our daughter, "Let's go because Mommy's cranky." That didn't help my frustration with him any. It made me angrier. He left me behind to attend 6:30 Mass because I was cranky? Really?
I spoke to my sponsor not long after they left, which helped calm me down. Then I started thinking about much missing today wasn't the best idea. This is the first Mass/Ceremony I've missed. After I got off the phone with my sponsor, I realized that I just didn't miss Mass, but I missed a wonderful experience.
