Boy, do things ever get twisted up when you try to straighten them out.
Ok, so the bank refused outright to refinance the truck - and refused me a medical loan as well.
Lucky me - sort of - I told my mom all about what's going on, and she got mad at the bank - and paid the truck off. The catch? I had to give my truck to one of my brothers,... who had totaled his own truck months back(fell asleep behind the wheel and flipped it into somebody's yard). In return, she gave me the nearly new car she had been trying to give him - which he refused to take because he wanted a truck.
So, no more truck payments.... but also still no money for the surgery. I am a veteran, and I live well over 40 miles from the nearest VA clinic/hospital, so I qualified for the Veteran's Choice program. I had the surgeon get on with them as a provider,... and applied to them to get the surgery done. They approved it, and everything was set - just waiting to hear back when the surgery was going to be.... Weeks later, still no surgical date.... I called Veteran's Choice back. They decided it wasn't a surgery they covered - calling it an elective procedure - so they refused it at the last moment. After having issued an approval code and everything...
I emailed this to my VA doctor, who has gotten several people at the VA on it - and wrote a letter informing the Veteran's Choice that this is a medically necessary procedure, NOT an elective one; and has asked the surgeon to send another letter informing them of such as well. She then advised I get my congressperson in on this too,....
Given the season - with Christmas only a couple of days away - I doubt my congressperson is anywhere to be found right now. With luck, I may be able to locate her after New Year's... far too late for her to get them to change and still get the procedure done before Spring semester begins at college. I was trying to get this taken care of during the long break for the winter holidays.
So, at worst, I'm not going to get the surgery done due to lack of money - same as always. At best, it will be done, but not without messing up my classes and thus my financial aid,... and my chances of improving my income potential.
I am so frustrated right now, I don't even know how to FEEL about all this crap! I'm angry, depressed, sad, frustrated, .... tied up in knots emotionally,... And to boot, the PRICE of the surgery goes UP the end of December,.... because my 3 month grace period to get the surgery done under the lower quote will expire then, so it's going to cost even more.
To top it off, the car my Mom gave me? It has lovely recalls on it - for the doorlocks suddenly failing, so the doors pop open as you drive and won't stay closed, as well as transmission, and several other sections. Already, the rear passenger-side door lock failed,... and I had to get the dealership to honor the recall and fix it. I can't trade it in - still in Mom's name. Meanwhile, she fixed my old truck up and gave it to my brother.
A final stab.... Mom informed me that she can no longer help me financially; just as the DSS canceled my food stamps because I am attending a college - never mind it's a community college, without a meal plan or housing; ANY classes taken at a college of any sort disqualifies you from the program. Now, all I have is the pittance from the VA, and what little the VA Vocational Rehab program pays for me to take classes towards getting a job.
So, if I try to get an education to get a job, I'm going to have to starve. Thank you ever so much, DSS, for forcing me to remain unemployed and uneducated, just so I can EAT! But of course, if I DON'T take classes, I lose the pittance from the VA Vocational Rehab program, so I then cannot pay ANY of my bills,... You know, like rent, the power company, the water company,... So I will quickly become homeless if I DON'T take the classes.
I can either starve, or be homeless and THEN starve. Joy.
On the plus side,.... I got a 4.00 average in all my classes this semester, for the CNC Machining Associate's Degree. I'd celebrate, but I'm broke and trying to figure out if I can pay rent and eat next month.
