I am a proud gramma to a sweet baby boy. He'll be 1 in August. I have 3 children. My 21yo son is in the Navy. My 17 yo daughter has her GED and a great son. She has a bright future as soon as she is ready to claim it. My 16 yo daughter graduated high school and will be living in her college dorm in August!Honestly, if I didn't have my eldest daughter and my grandson, I would be facing Empty Nest Syndrome:(My grandson has been in dss care for 9 months . This is due to his father slapping him when he was only 5 1/2 weeks old. My daughter had gone to pick up something to eat, and the paternal grandmother was supposed to be caring for him. It has taken months of red tape, an attorney, several delayed court dates to come this far. His 1st socialworker seemed intent on adopting him out and terminating parental rights. With the help of my attorney, a judge declaring my daughter innocent but neglectfull, a new socialworker will be allowing Antonio to come back home to us. He will be in my custody, to prevent his mother from taking him off somewhere. My daughter will be allowed to care for him while I am at work. I hope she realizes this is her chance to show he really does come first. She took very good care of him for his first 5 1/2 weeks, he has never even had a diaper rash! I worry that maybe somehow the bond between mother and son has been broken. I worry she may decide caring for him is just too hard, and she'd rather be hanging out with her friends I don't approve of. I love her, and she hasn't been doing drugs, ( in spite of the months it has taken to recover her son. However, she does have issues with not being able to take no for an answer, not taking responsibilty for her own actions, and not making good decisions in general.Financially, it has been tough. Since the beginning, I had to pay the child support so DSS couldnt terminate on those conditions. I am still having to pay for supervised visits, as we only get 1 hour every other week besides what I pay for. Since I have now been told I will get him by August 16th, we have added more visitation so as not to confuse him too badly. I wish I could afford more visits. I know there will be seperation anxiety issues, as he has bonded to his foster mom. The good news is, he is comfortable with us, and we have never missed a visit. My daughter is stressed over the fact he may feel his foster mom is his "mommy". He isn't talking yet.My hope is that My daughter can grow up, be self- sufficient, and eventually raise her son. I am willing to be her support, but I'm not sure what that means as far as how best to help her achieve these goals.I would love to talk to anyone who is raising a teen parent, and find any resources on these issues.
