Ugh...
Dear DS diary,
Ugh, it's just occured to me that it's easily been a week and a half -- maybe a little longer -- since I've actually been on here.
It might be just as well, because not much has changed. In fact you could argue that little has happened to the good.
The good is that I'm doing a challenge in my group on Facebook where I'm logging the mPoints (it's a loyalty program at heart) achievement points I earn through an app called Nexercise through the middle of next month, which will become a donation to charity at the end. I've been trying to get the rest of my small group involved with no success, which is not bothering me because I am going ahead with it anyway. In fact I may well do it again. The only thing disappointing me is that I have 4 times the mPoints in tow than I have in my earned-for-donation bank at the moment, and expanding my group is not coming easy because talking to random people, even over a Facebook game, doesn't come easy and usually doesn't happen at all.
This is because I can't go through a day without my guard up virtually all the time now. I tried to work on this with my life coach this week, hoping I could reach out to a partner in my previous career who I had to contact about something completely different about three months ago. We're trying to locate references together.
This ended badly...I've already burned that bridge behind me, and I literally could not pick up the phone without being consumed by internal anger. I never was able to forgive the partners or the senior staff for what I viewed as an act of betrayal when I was promised that there would be no incidents at my first holiday party, only to learn that one of the senior staff got drunk as a skunk, which led to an incident on the floor of the place where the party was being held. This was further reinforced when I caught the partners drinking while we were still open to the public during the peak season.
As I conceded to my therapist the other day, realizing that people -- specifically ones from high school -- have likely changed since the days that have scarred me for life and being able to forgive them are two different things. And since the feeling, which is now a belief, that people are not to be trusted has festered long enough to become permanent, the day that I will see the latter will likely never come, something I did not mention but should have because it's true (yes, I realize that's a self-fulfilling prophecy right there, but I have reached the realization that in some areas I cannot be helped and this is one of them).
This showed a few hours ago. A FB friend who I thought was safe let slip that she was involved in a prank that involved dumping bitten plastic caps over the rail one day in HS. I never saw this one, but it took no time at all to make her guilty by association...and in my heart I knew no explanation out of her mouth was going to be good enough. So while I decided to keep her in my group because my occasional videos are helping her (apparently), I felt no choice but to unfriend her quietly.
This is revealing a pretty serious problem, because I now understand that with an inability to trust, an inability to listen seriously to people who I inherently don't trust has come along with it. Fixing the former will never happen and I know it, but I still need to do something about the latter...problem is, it looks like it's going to require bait -- some kind of reward, basically -- to make that happen, and knowing my addiction issues that will almost certainly lead to a slippery slope because I only need one moment where my self-control feels weak to send that idea crashing downhill.
I realize this is a very long-winded way of saying things, but what this translates to is that I'm in a terrible place as it stands right now.

You have been missed here by more than myself and while it\'s good to see you again, I\'m ever so sorry it\'s because you are in such rough place:(:(
Has your therp. ever discussed the possibility of your having PTSD from your past experiences? I\'m not an expert but at least some of what you describe would come under that umbrella.
As far as giving yourself a reward for overcoming some of your trust issues or anything else you struggle with, it wouldn\'t necessarily lead to any kind of and \"addiction\" in my opinion. Surely it could be something that you could use long term as part of your recovery without seeing it as becoming addicted?
I can\'t begin to imagine how frustrating this has to be!!!!
I also have major trust issues but as I\'ve gotten older, have found ways to manage them, emphasis on \"manage\", not master them. With some of my own trust issues, I find myself essentially mentally planning an \"escape\" of sorts if I can\'t handle whatever person/situation is causing the problem.
I know far to well that going to a restaurant or tavern type place with a huge number of people and possibly some kind of entertainment would not ever be an option for me. Nothing has ever happened to me in that situation so I don\'t know what the root of that one is, I just know it\'s part of who I am here and now. Not the best place to be when you have 2 young grandsons whose parents hold large b\'day parties for them in public places every year.
For me, it has gotten so bad that the rare occasions my son plans a cookout or some other type of family gathering, I\'m conveniently too sick or in too much pain to participate or I go and only stay about 30 min. before I have to leave. He takes that very personally and I cannot find a way to get him to understand that in no way is it caused by him or his family/friends:(:(
As far as interacting online via the games, I\'m sorry to say I can\'t play any pc games because my spine will not allow me to sit for more than 10, maybe 15 min. on a good day.
The rest of the reason is pretty much in my last journal. I dearly wish I could participate since the Crime Scene one does pique my curiousity. At one time, I was quite good at spotting \"hidden\" items in similar games.
I really have not done FB since my daughter and her family estranged themselves from me several yrs. ago. I also really have nothing to post that is personal in nature though I do enjoy reading how others are doing.
You and Mystie are the only \"friends\" I have there besides my son who never uses it, his wife does all the posting or the games they play post automatically.
I did see something I found wonderful on one of your most recent posts on FB, you had a wonderful smile on your face. I\'ve never seen any pics with you smiling in them and I so enjoyed seeing that. I hope you will be able to show that off more often in the future:):)!!!
Please know,, that while I\'m not around much to speak of anymore, I continue to believe in you and that you will find ways to work around your numerous issues.
((((((((gentle hugs))))))))))
I\'m sorry I don\'t know what advice to give you because I have the same problem. Even though I might be too trusting, I am unsociable, even when it comes to online communication.
This is something you need to work on in therapy. It may take some time to resolve, but you\'ll get through it. If your therapist isn\'t working for you, then you can get a new .
I can\'t even explain why I disappeared from here for that long...it\'s not a secret that DS is where my real refuge is. :s
To immarcie: \"Manage\" my trust issues? I concede that it probably wouldn\'t have helped in the case of the bridge-burning, but I think I can see how trying to manage them (as opposed to really solving them) could work. Since I got so good at hiding my emotions for so long, adjusting that to learn how to hide my constant suspicions might not be that hard...if I\'m good about outing said suspicions somehow, probably through here I guess.
To Meggie: Just ears to listen means a lot right now, probably more than you realize.
