Today went to pot very, very quickly.  It does seem like the last month has made up for the previous winter in the New England area, which was fairly sparse on storms.
Today was the back end of a two-day snowstorm.  The system that carried this one was incredibly huge -- it's center was six hundred miles outside of Boston -- and still it managed to bring quite the mess in the form of heavy, wet snow.
The initial forecasts were for 4-8 inches.  But as the morning went on the predictions got worse.  First was 6-10.  Then it was 12-24.  Then it was 15-24.  The winter storm warning had to be extended to 7pm.  It was a nasty mess.
To give you an idea of how quickly this deteriorated, I checked with my training studio to see if my appointment was still up at 11:30am.  An hour later, it was scrubbed.
Not long after that things finally settled down, but the roads were impassible in spots.  It took several more hours for plows to clear the streets, but eventually they did.
The one silver lining for me is that I don't live near the coastline.  There, on Plum Island, one home was lost to the fierce waves created by the storm and the high tide when it tumbled off its foundation and partially into the Atlantic Ocean.  Beach erosion was to blame.
It was just a bad, bad day.
