Today I'm kind of in a scared state of mind.
The way my chemistry class has been going -- and with the labs in particular -- has been starting to destroy me in other areas now, too. I haven't slept well for most of the week, so when I had to take my family exam on Thursday, I didn't look too good, felt worse, and even worse than that couldn't think too well. Nearly nothing came to me, and I basically bombed it out. I wasn't even close to clear range.
My professor -- who also happens to be my advisor -- could see that I was upset, so she checked on me yesterday. She had an inkling as to what the problem could be, and asked if I could contact the senior academic counselor on campus. She also sent the message to the counselor so the counselor would know it was likely I was going to contact her.
So while at work yesterday afternoon, I did. Knowing that what I need help on could well be too much for Scared to handle when she returns from the UK, I called the counselor and tried to articulate my problem as best as I could. I made clear that we would have to move fast because I have an exam on Friday and it's not looking too good a full third of the material on it right now.
So I'm seeing her on Tuesday morning. But I'm worried about whether this will come off. This so called "Frankenstorm" (Hurricane Sandy) which is expected to miss my area to the west is still expected to bring heavy rain and high winds to my area. People are anxious enough about it that it's not impossible that the people in charge will panic and cancel classes on Tuesday. If that happens, I'm screwed, because I don't know when Scared will be back from the UK and am afraid that she will not have the time or the stamina to cover everything that has gotten by me.
I just feel very scared. My gut is that if this does not work out, the best I can hope for on this upcoming exam would be somewhere in the 70% range...and honestly, I probably need a score of closer to 90% since I have felt so alienated from my classmates that the labs have been disasters all around (the only mitigator there: the prof hasn't seemed to care, thinking that I've been too tired to complete the labs and letting most of the misses go on those grounds. If only he understood what the truth really is...)
