Today was scary.
First, I found out this morning that one of my colleagues at work is going to be camping for a couple of weeks, and could I work a few Wednesdays -- which I sometimes do -- to cover? Well, of course, anything to help...but I pretty much had to ditch reading through the chapters right then and there when I got the news (nobody outside of DS knows that).
I guess it's okay because the first paper that I have until next Tuesday to do is only 3-5 pages with no outside sources allowed, therefore I have just two books to work with and around 100 pages I can use to build my argument. It's a tough course but the professor is fair.
Then, of course, the Summer Games are on...they had to have been on NBC all day. My dad actually wanted me to watch some with him...when he knows I have work to do. He was cool with me turning him down but I couldn't help but think: Half the reason I'm taking these summer courses was so I could avoid two specific events: the European football (soccer) championships and the Summer Games, because I know how easily they suck me in. I don't want or need another trigger right now.
Which brings me to the random positive thoughts I'm working on. They have to be having an effect somehow, because under all this my normal reaction would be to panic (no lie). I did feel anxious late afternoon, but not before I got my summary notes through three chapters and started a second discussion paper that, when completed, will allow to focus on that first paper I mentioned above relatively unimpeded. And yet...I mean, I can come up with some, including the bizarre (like how I love my pet cockatiel)...
...
...actually, you know what it is? I'm not used to it. That probably explains why I still felt kinda anxious when I took a nap around 4pm. And honestly, I only just learned how to do this last night. So of course it's going to take some time.
