After this weekend's latest breakdown (twice), I'm in a spot where I can no longer attempt my second course the way that I want to. Since I have to work today, I may as well be a week behind on the readings.
There seems to be no shortage of notes coming from the lectures, and there is no real formal examination except for the map quiz tomorrow (ready as I can hope to be for that) and a take-home final that I'll have 48 hours to do when it comes out. The rest is short (1 page) discussion papers on articles and a trifecta of projects.
So even though I think I'm probably sunk and will be in survival mode for the next five weeks, I guess I'm going to try this because I have no choice now: Forget about taking notes on the text, just read it, sprinkle in those assignments to keep up with the due dates, and pray that I can hang on. A B would be a good result now.
The one thing that could make this work is that while the main text has a lot of pages, it's not really a big book; it's kinda small in size by comparison with reasonably sized font.
The one thing that could still shoot this down is a problem that a comment on my journal pointed out last night: My friends here have more faith in me than I do in myself. This issue has been ongoing for much longer than I've been here for, and the pretty ace clear on my sociology class should have mitigated this some, but somehow it hasn't. I'm still looking for answers there that will penetrate my inner cynic and keep it pinned until it's safely established...but so far nothing on that front has come out.
