This is one of those "do I leave it here, or do I toss this up on the boards?" kind of entries.
So, my dad has been working at a hardware store for the last few years now.  The staff he works with is...not exactly the sharpest tools in the shed (in fact, he could probably run the place on his own).  He's finally had enough of this and will be effectively retiring at the end of this month.
I can't really blame him...he sees examples of pure stupidity (see above) pretty much every day, several times.  Plus more to the point, he's 63 years old and his knees are starting to show some signs of his age (they don't function like they used to anymore).
Here's my worry with that.  Like me, he doesn't sit still very well.  He does have a hobby -- he builds models and reads a lot, which is more than I can say for myself at the moment -- but just knowing him it won't be enough on his own.  And frankly, I don't get along with him all that well: I'm panicky, he's impatient, and while it is a little less severe now, I actually think having him around a house is going to be more of a bother than a help.
He hasn't been pushing himself so hard recently (good thing), but I really can't help but wonder: Like a lot of the other things that have just gone out of control with me, this...let's call it worrying about what other people do has been going on for longer than I would normally want to admit publicly (but here I will...it has to be a good 15 years or more).  And it has to stop, but it sometimes almost like I take comfort from hiding because I've been that way for far too long, if that makes sense to anyone.
