Therapy

Today I made it to therapy. I wanted to stay in bed since I've been having a lot of trouble sleeping, but I got my butt out of bed and made it there. She says that my depression lately is because I'm off my schedule. I used to go to the gym for the 11:30 class, then take the bus to work and then go home. But I don't do that anymore because of my foot. I can't want until I can get the darn thing fixed and I can walk freely again. I've been limiting myself to walking a mile. I want to walk more, especially at night when it's cool and breezy. For a while I wasn't walking at all and I was going crazy. Now I just try and keep it small. The podiatrist said I could walk longer distances if I start out slow, but I don't want to stress my foot and have it get worse.
My therapist showed me a chart. It was a triangle with "Thoughts" at the top, "Feelings" on one side and "actions" on the other side. She wants me to fight my depression like that. If I'm depressed, then think of good things, and you will feel better. I know it sounds wishy-washy, but that does make sense. I'm going to hold off going to my psych since I don't need a med change. I just need to go in for refills. My therapist also wants me to start going to the gym again.... I just need to start going to sleep earlier so I can wake up earlier and make it to the gym. I'm going to try on Friday (or actually, Thursday depending when Geo's mom gets here) to get my butt out of bed and get to class. I already told Geo to take my phone away at 11pm every night so I can learn to go to sleep at 11 instead at midnight. Last night my body didn't want to sleep, it just wanted to rest. I wasn't tired, just enjoying being in bed. I did need sleep, so I took a sleep Klonopin. Anyway, my laptop is just about out of charge so I will resume hopefully tomorrow.

there are some night where I just can\'t sleep so I just say to myself at least just shutting my eyes and laying there is a form of rest.

I hope your foot heals soon, it has been a long time. the approach your therapist is a bit like CBT, writing your thoughts, your feelings about the thought and what you can do to change/challenge the thought. I have tried CBT before, it helped me some but I gave up. try and stick to it, I did see changes.when I usually take my nap, there are times I cant sleep, but lay there for about an hour just to relax. many hugss

I also have trouble sleeping. I go to bed at the same time anyway. Even if I just lay there with my eyes closed for hours. As long as I\'m not flopping around enough to bother hubby I stay in bed. If I get up it just makes things worse. The only electronics in the bedroom are the alarm clocks and I sometimes drop a pillow case over them to block out the light. It does make it hard to get out of bed in the morning especially now that I\'m unemployed and don\'t HAVE to. I make too many excuses to stay in bed later and later. I think your therapist is making an excellent suggestion about going to bed earlier and trying to get back into your routine. I wish you the very best of luck.
