Bad

I had a really bad panic attack driving into work this morning. Called my husband to come and get me , but I kept driving because I felt if I stopped I would freak out even more on the side of the road. I actually made it to work before he made it to me. Got through the day at work but was very anxious. One of the other supervisors said she noticed that something was wrong with me. So the whole day I was just nerves. I was calmed down by the afternoon and then it came time to drive home again... Ugh. My boss followed me on the highway but when we had to part I got nervous again and got off the highway. It's been bad lately. I drive miles and miles out of my way just to avoid being trapped on the highway. Mind you through both driving episodes today I had taken .5mg of Ativan. The doc only wanted me to take this one a day. I'm home now but feel sick to my stomach. I hate this panic. I don't want to live like this. I just don't know....I wish to win powerball so I can hire my own personal driver. Frustrated!!!!

Can you take a bus?

I\'m sure I could. It would actually be a couple of buses.. It\'s something to think about.

I\'m so sorry that you went through this and a surely can relate. Sometimes the panic attack and anxiety are so intense that it may require a higher than normal dosage of medication. I have only ever used Xanax but sometimes my usual dose of .5 mg is not enough and I have to take a higher dosage.

I can\'t remember if you have the Panic Attacks Workbook by David Carbonell. There is an entire section devoted to driving. It helps but I still struggle. I wish I lived in Europe where I could get around without a car.

Anyways, I\'m here for you my friend. I hope you\'re able to relax tonight. Big, big hugs.

Hey, you\'ve just had a rough patch, that\'s all. Now look, let\'s think about this. What\'s the worse thing that could happen to you on the highway? That you break down? Get stuck in traffic? and what if you do? What will happen to you? Nothing, that\'s what. You\'re just having one of those bad episodes like we all have and we all feel hopeless and rotten when it happens. Keep driving. Don\'t give up. Get some practice driving on the trigger roads with a trusted companion by your side to give you the confidence you need. You CAN do it.

Take care

The best thing about your story is that even though you panicked, you continued to drive and push through and you made it! That takes a lot of strength. Good for you.

And it\'s good to know you have supportive people such as your husband and boss to help you out through this.
