when I had little ones, and I had to go shopping, I would look at each one square in the eye, and told them that 1. We are going shopping for X. Nothing else, not candy, not toys, not colouring books, We are shopping for X. 2. There is no whinning or fussing, no screaming or moaning, you will have quiet indoor shopping voices 3. You will not give mother grief. If we can get through this shopping with out fussing, whining moaning or complaining then there will be fun and treats when we get home. (and then I would think of something like make them milkshakes or if it looked like they were behaving, then I would get a bucket of ice cream) but you have to look square in the eye...with the one, I had to do \'nose to nose\' (hehe) and later on I found out that it terrified the one into good behaviour. And you talk in low, commanding tones. Don\'t let them whine into you not doing this job..I wish I had a job to shop!!!

I forgot to mention, you have to get down on their level to do this...like I said the eldest told me a couple of years ago that it really scared him into behaviour and all I did was get close to them, and get nose to nose with that particular one. hehe!!!
