OMG
I was admitted to the hospital last Saturday with pneumonia. I caught it early so it did not hit me so hard. I am home now and still on the antibiotic and prednisone.
I have an appointment with a new pulmonary doctor, Kidney doctor and I just changed my cardiologist. My new heart dr tells me that the metoprolol I have been taking not only interferes with another heart med but it is bad for my lung problem. I have been on these drugs for 4 years causing damage the whole time. Kidney dr does not want me to take water pill any longer, it has affected my kidneys. If anything good came out of this it is that I have found dr's that care and know what they are doing....(so far).
I am feeling pretty good not anything like when I came home from the hospital in January.
I will never stop fighting.

About your doctors well YOU are lucky you found nice and caring doctors for sure. I can\'t believe what those other doctors you had didn\'t check on your med\'s? I am shock! But glad you found it!!!!
Sad you have to go thru so much pain and worry Linda, I do hope the best for these new doctors helping you the right way.
I can tell you from my experience I\'m having problems knowing which doctor is good? I think for me it\'s trail and error.
I think it is a bitch to have all you been thru and find out it has harm you worse!
God is only one that knows why these doctors didn\'t know about your med\'s?

I have pneumonia again too - would you mind telling me what antibiotic they put you on? I did not admit to the hospital, just treated in the E/R on Sat and not sure the doc there knew what he was doing.

They put me on LEVAQUIN. I have 7 more days to take it. It is doing the job but you can not take dairy products with it. You should check to see if you can take dairy products with yours if you have trouble let me know what you are on and I will look it up for you.

So sorry to hear you\'ve been sick, but happy to hear you found good doctors. I mentioned this on one of my journal pages, but you are so correct about drug interreactions. My friend had a doctor covering for her usual doctor who was on vacation, didn\'t pay attention to what drugs she was already on, prescribed a new one, and she ended up two days later, with five heart attacks - by the time she had \"recovered\" from those, she could no longer work, lost three months worth of memory, can\'t write without her hands shaking, and walks with a cane. So, it can and does happen - and now I always check with the pharmacist before I start any new medication, for I find lots of times they seem more knowledgeable that the docs when it comes to drugs.
I hope you are feeling much better by now, and that you are happy with the new doctor. Never is fun being sick, that\'s for sure!

Linda that is just so frightning but all to common..... And it could happen to any of us. I am so relieved that you seem to be correcting this.
This is why I carry a laminated list of all medications on my person at all times. I show the doctors and I ask if there is a problem of drug mixing.
I have to depend on them to know but it also makes them pause and consider that it is a huge concern for you. And I always double check with my pharmacist who are the real experts.

Linda, I\'m so glad you\'re ok now, thank god those doctors picked up on the problem. If you\'re lucky, which you were, the hospital docs will check thoroughly
what you\'re taking and do a proper follow up. Like everyone said here,always have the pharmacist check interactions between your pills and possible side effects, they can give you a print out of each med as well. Get better soon, hugs Terry
Linda I too am so glad your a lot better now, that Pneumonia is so easy to pick up,thank goodness you got on top of it quickly, and now you have better Doctors, great.
I too have a list of my medications with me at all times, and always consult with my pharmacist.

Thank you everyone, I am feeling pretty good. I want to go out and walk but I think I had better stay in for a few more days to be sure that I do not over do it. I have to go shopping and exercise. I can not wait to get back to my regular schedule....

Glad you ar Ok. Have you had a Pneumonia in the past? I had one when I was 60 and my doc sez to get one more when I\'m 65. Time to get the other one.
I had the pneumonia, h1n1 (swine flu) and seasonal flu last November. Maybe that I why I did not have such a hard time with the pneumonia now. You have to get booster shots of h1n1 and seasonal flu each year.
