New job
After four years of unemployment I finally got a job about a month ago. I had high hopes for it, but so far it's been a disaster! The store is completely unorganized, the management is clueless, the employees are lazy. the store is horribly under staffed and my "training" was a joke. I had to watch roughly 80 training videos, most of which lasted at least a half hour, within my first few days, then was taken through a very brief walk through where information was rattled off so quickly it made my head spin. I wasn't shown how to do more than half of the store functions, but was put out on the floor anyway and left to figure it out. Luckily I'm a fast learner and have been able to hold my own thus far, but it's been miserable.
My biggest problem is my hours. I applied for the overnight shift because I'm an insomniac and rarely fall asleep before the sun comes up. That was the shift their help wanted sign offered. When I did both interviews for the job I made it very clear that those were the hours I wanted and told them why. I was told both times that that was what I'd be working, but I'd have to do my training during 2nd shift first. That was understandable, so I powered through it on little to no sleep. My training is over now, but they still have me working 2nd most days. I'm fuckin exhausted, but I kept telling myself that it'd get better once they put me on third. Today I had to work an 8 hour shift at the registers AFTER having been awake for 22 hours because they keep changing my hours around and its making it so I can't sleep. I nearly cried when my alarm went off this morning. When I was getting ready to go home I was informed that they're planning on keeping me on 2nd. When I objected I was told that I'd just have to get use to it.
Tell me, what part of insomniac do they not get? I've been like this for 14 years! This isn't something I can just "get over". I've tried everything, over and over again, but this is how my body works and I can't change it. What the fuck am I suppose to do? Not sleep?
This job fuckin sucks.
